I absolutely love Dr. Ayoola! I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I first started with Dr. Stewart last March & have been with Dr. Ayoola since Dr. Stewart's passing in July. I went to a group meeting, after Dr. Stewart's passing, to "get to know" Dr. Ayoola. I learned how very experienced Dr. Ayoola is. He has an impressive medical history, education & bedside manner. I had chosen Dr. Stewart because I believed him to be the best DS surgeon. Dr. Ayoola had been doing surgeries, side by side, with "the best" for a year, before his passing. If "the best" doctor chose Dr. Ayoola, then I would choose & trust Dr. Ayoola. I have no regrets.

Dr. Ayoola has an impressive bedside manner. Great eye contact, smiles, body language, etc. He really listens. When he answers my questions, he is very informative and always explains in a way that is easy to understand. I've had no surgical complications and my incisions are healing beautifully. I love all of his staff as well. They fought hard & long with my insurance company. All of them greet me with smiles & friendliness each time I see them. They're all very helpful & give lots of great ideas and support.

I had my WLS with Dr Stewart also and reffered to Dr Ayoola since Dr Stewarts passing. I would like to say I had asked Dr Ayoola for some info regarding my surgery and he was awesome in responding! That tells me he is a caring Dr . He was there for my surgery and removed my gallbladder and assisted in my DS with Dr Stewart. Highly recomended and the staff Amy and Jessica very wonderfull help to assisting me with my vits and meds . Great folks !!

Dr. Ayoola performed my DS on Friday, 3/21/14. The surgery went very well. On Saturday, 3/22, I had a major heart attack and had to be transported to another hospital for treatment. (PLEASE NOTE: The surgery did NOT cause my heart attack.) The only reason I survived was because I was in a hospital setting when it started and got immediate treatment. On Sunday, when I was in intensive care at the other hospital, Dr. Ayoola came to see me. He does not have privileges at that hospital and never charged for this visit. He came to make sure the hospital had dietary instructions and to check on me.

I really cannot say enough good things about him. Outstanding human beings make outstanding surgeons.

So sorry about the heart attack, but glad you are getting the care you need (and that you were in a medical setting when it happened). congrats on your DS and wishing you a safe and successful recovery from here on out.

Welcome to the board. How are you doing now?

Thanks for asking, Diana. It has been a rough recovery. I have been having diarrhea every day since surgery -- always in the mornings.
  • I have cut out all dairy products.
  • I am not eating any fruits, vegetables or products made with flour.
  • My diet consists only of one egg daily, 8 oz. almond milk daily, tuna, salmon, chicken, avocado and mayonnaise. Dr. A tells me this is fine for now.
  • I am consuming as little sodium as possible.
  • PPI meds are contraindicated because I am taking blood thinners.
  • I am drinking at least 64 oz. fluid daily, usually more.
Dr. Ayoola is ordering a C Diff test, but I think my body is just adjusting to the new plumbing, because I do get better in the afternoons.

Adjusting to the lowered capacity of my heart is a challenge, as well. It is as if I suddenly became very old. Just taking a shower is exhausting! I have to remind myself that I am only 40 days out, and that it will all get better.

The good news is that I have lost 35.5 pounds, which gives me a much better chance of handling everything!

You are very kind to inquire after me. Thank you very much.
Monica

There are a number of things you can do for intractable diarrhea - some of which I can mention, but some of which the combined insight of this board would be better informed about. Start a thread about diarrhea - it would be good to get one going where ALL the suggestions are in one place!
  • Chia seeds firm up poop
  • Cholestyramine - a medication that can deal with the problem if caused by bile salts
  • More calcium - can constipate
  • NO fake sugars that end with 'itol (sorbitol, erythritol, maltitol, etc.)
  • How many and what kinds of carbs are you eating?
  • Lactose? (You said you cut out all dairy, but are you sure? It hides in strange places)
  • Protein drinks (the mere THOUGHT of them makes me want to butt-spew)?

I will look for the chia seeds. Thanks! I never heard of them. Where do you buy them? Dr. A. tells me to get Immodium AD, Benefiber and an OTC Probiotic. I am not using fake sugars. There are only 8 g of carbs in 8 oz. almond breeze and there was 3 g of carbs in the Ahi Tuna I had last night. Today I am going completely carb-less to see if that's the problem. No dairy for over 2 weeks now - not even butter. And no, I have to confess, I am not doing the protein drinks. I just can't choke them down. I'll have to catch up on protein later when I feel better.

Thank you, Diana!
