Almond milk gives me the shits.

Welcome Monica! Hope ya feeling better soon. I agree with Elizabeth, my 1st suspicion was the almond milk. Remember, one of the weird things about our procedure is that things can change afterwards for us. Things that worked before, foods you LOVED,etc, may not work for you now. Have you tried giving up the almond milk?

I absolutely love Dr. Ayoola! I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. I first started with Dr. Stewart last March & have been with Dr. Ayoola since Dr. Stewart's passing in July. I went to a group meeting, after Dr. Stewart's passing, to "get to know" Dr. Ayoola. I learned how very experienced Dr. Ayoola is. He has an impressive medical history, education & bedside manner. I had chosen Dr. Stewart because I believed him to be the best DS surgeon. Dr. Ayoola had been doing surgeries, side by side, with "the best" for a year, before his passing. If "the best" doctor chose Dr. Ayoola, then I would choose & trust Dr. Ayoola. I have no regrets.

Dr. Ayoola has an impressive bedside manner. Great eye contact, smiles, body language, etc. He really listens. When he answers my questions, he is very informative and always explains in a way that is easy to understand. I've had no surgical complications and my incisions are healing beautifully. I love all of his staff as well. They fought hard & long with my insurance company. All of them greet me with smiles & friendliness each time I see them. They're all very helpful & give lots of great ideas and support.

I couldn't agree more with your sentiment that the if the best are gone, the best hand trained by the best is now...er....the best!! Haha! It's why I chose Dr. Aceves in Mexico. He was trained by Dr. Ungson who is one of the best DS surgeons on Earth, and now he is the master teaching it to others. It's a shame these geniuses have to get old or die, but such is the fate that awaits us all. But the best of the best are smart enough to leave their legacy of greatness behind. Kudos to you for acknowledging a great man because Lord knows there are too damn few great men/woman on this planet!

Hello, Elizabeth and Will.

Yes, I gave up almond milk. And eggs. In fact, I am eating only fish and chicken right now. It hasn't slowed the diarrhea down, I'm sorry to say, but I am just focusing on getting the protein for now. I spoke a couple of times with Dr. A's nurse this past week. It seems that a small percentage of DS patients experience diarrhea for 2-3 months following surgery regardless of what they eat, then it goes away, along with other food sensitivities. I have been assured that this will pass and things will get better. I am keeping everything down eating just a few bites at a time, taking my vitamins and protein. While this is not a pleasant time, the weight loss is so welcome and needed! DS is the best thing I could do for my heart and my life. I only wish I had done it sooner.

Ahhh...ok. It may just be that your body is so traumatized by all you've been through, that it's throwing a bit of a tantrum. What an amazing machine our body is! When it senses a foreign object or possible pathogenic organism somewhere in our "gut" it often responds with diarrhea, (thanks God you've not had vomiting too. Sheesh!), to clean the danger out. My guess is you just need more healing time to reduce it's hyper sensitivity. It's awesome you've kept yourself hydrated during all of this...great job! Please keep us posted.

I will look for the chia seeds. Thanks! I never heard of them. Where do you buy them? Dr. A. tells me to get Immodium AD, Benefiber and an OTC Probiotic. I am not using fake sugars. There are only 8 g of carbs in 8 oz. almond breeze and there was 3 g of carbs in the Ahi Tuna I had last night. Today I am going completely carb-less to see if that's the problem. No dairy for over 2 weeks now - not even butter. And no, I have to confess, I am not doing the protein drinks. I just can't choke them down. I'll have to catch up on protein later when I feel better.

Thank you, Diana!
JUST be careful with chia seeds...they can lower your blood pressure.

I know everyone is different but missing a lot of work is something that I cant afford to do. I work at a dry cleaning business I'm on my my feet 8 to 10 hours a day. All I can afford to do is 2 weeks off after surgery. So I was wondering about how long I will recover after my DS..

You will NOT be able to be on your feet like that two weeks out. Don't have surgery until you get that stuff in place.

As EN says, do not have surgery until you get a plan in place to be out 6-8 weeks. You MIGHT still be able to go back earlier but you have just ONE shot at healing from this surgery, do not screw it up. PLAN on a MINIMUM of 6, think 8 as most likely.

The outside may heal quickly but it isn't your incisions that need to heal, it's the inside sliced and diced part. Your sleeve and bowels will be mad as hell at you and they take a lot longer to heal.

Dr. Stewart and Denton Texas did my surgery and am now our year out now but I cannot shake the diarrhea no matter what I've done the elimination diet I will had colonoscopies Don there's absolutely nothing wrong and in my body as far as that goes but I guess is just something that some of us have to live with although I think it's worth it. I had to totally get away from my job because there's no way I can work with this problem with diarrhea. My gastrologist doctor put me in the hospital for a week to see if we can get rid of diarrhea and that didn't work either. They set me up to have a reversal in New Orleans but I don't think I want to do that I would rather just live with it and I guess I'm going to have to go on disability on my doctor put me on full disability . The good news is I have lost hundred 60 pounds in 11 months to me is worth the diarrhea any day
