Hello all- wow, great format! I'm an GBRNY to DS revision from Fall of 2013. My revision didn't go so well, as I went septic and spent two months in the hospital. I did use a well-vetted surgeon, but prefer not to focus on names. What I'd rather focus on is the fact that surgery, particularly revision surgery, has risks and that it's ok if things aren't all rainbows and unicorns. I have had a lot of complications, but am determined that every day will be a little better than yesterday.

Hi y'all...I'm Bridget...I had VSG January 10, 2014. Surgery went great, I healed quickly & without complications. I am apparently a slow loser & this frustrates me to no end. I've lost 42 lbs since surgery & have worked my butt off for every pound. I exercise 1-2 hours a day, most days more & I eat right (follow my plan). I've tried mixing everything up...exercise, food, adding or taking away calories & carbs, etc. I don't know what to do & I'm afraid I'll never get this weight off. Thanks for reading.

Hi Bridget! 42 pounds is a lot...how much do you have left?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
HW & Surgery Day Weight - 242 lbs
CW - 199 lbs (as of today)
Goal Weight or Healthy Weight Longest Life - 140-150 lbs
I would love to be at 140 lbs & I'm working my butt off to get there.

Hi All,

Still feeling pretty sick when I drink fluids. Can anyone tell me about how long this lasts? I'm almost 5 weeks post op, trying and trying to get in fluids but... Not going that well at all.

How many ounce of fluids are you getting in daily? You might benefit from some IV fluids.

What kinds of fluids are you drinking?

Are you taking an acid reducer? If no, try one. If yes, talk to the doc about changing the dose or the medication.

Thank Elizabeth. I am getting in only about 35 oz most days unless I drink something like real lemonade with plain old sugar. Today I'm going to just stock up on some of that even though it has sugar. Water makes me physically gag now. I have been taking Pepcid and back on Zofran since last night. I keep nibbling on things as I feel like it may help the nausea, blue it really doesn't. I'm calling to try phenegren(sp) today. Iced tea seems kinda of OK, although I know we are not supposed to have caffeine. Do you know why we are not supposed to drink it? At this point I really don't care as long as it's fluid going into my body.
5 weeks and down 31 lbs.

Water makes me gag too (still at almost 4 years out). I drank caffeine from the beginning - I'd say if tea works for you then drink it. For me, I have to add some sort of acid - G2 & lemonade Crystal Light were the only things that worked for me at first. I'm just now getting to be able to handle water if it has lots of lemon or lime in it.

Just retuned from the store with a case of organic lemonade, seems to be the only thing or ice tea with a lot of lemon. 5 weeks of feeling pretty rough getting a little old. Not a lot of options at this point so just moving forward. Thank for the post.

Don't worry about anything "forbidden" at this point with the fluids. Chances are the lemonade and tea are going down better because they are somewhat acidic and therefore kind of "match up" with stomach chemistry a tiny bit better than plain water.

If you're only getting a quart-plus a day, you are dehydrated and would probably feel a LOT better if you got some IV fluids.

@HazelsGrandMommy - pardon me if this has been said, but you know dehydration causes nausea, right? in other words, it might be impossible to get enough in orally once you get to a certain point.

what EN said, you might really NEED to go get IV fluids and then keep up rather than continuing to try and catch up.
