Oh, and I'm not vomiting on my fluids...only food and the various protein shakes are making me pukey. Dr. Rabkin told me to up my PPI to twice a day and take my Compazine twice a day and discontinue my protein shake in order to solely concentrate on hydration. I've been doing that for three days now...still no real change. Hoping going in for fluids will help...my next step is to ask Rabkin to prescribe stronger nausea meds:-/

Ugh - my biggest fear was nausea, and the puking with RNY and Lapband were the biggest reasons for looking for some other procedure. And I had non-stop nausea (without puking) for the first 31 days and was terrified that I'd made a HORRIBLE mistake.

(1) Change PPIs - some work for some people, some don't
(2) Stronger antinausea meds
(3) What stopped my nausea on the 31st day - chewing a little picked ginger - the kind you get as a condiment in Japanese restaurants.

Would you suggest still going in for fluids?

If you are dehydrated. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/dehydration-adults - I would not count weight loss as a symptom, however!

Symptoms of Dehydration in Adults
The signs and symptoms of dehydration range from minor to severe and include:
  • Increased thirst
  • Dry mouth and swollen tongue
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations (feeling that the heart is jumping or pounding)
  • Confusion
  • Sluggishness fainting
  • Fainting
  • Inability to sweat
  • Decreased urine output
Urine color may indicate dehydration. If urine is concentrated and deeply yellow or amber, you may be dehydrated.

When to Seek Medical Care
Call your doctor if the dehydrated person experiences any of the following:
  • Increased or constant vomiting for more than a day
  • Fever over 101°F
  • Diarrhea for more than 2 days
  • Weight loss
  • Decreased urine production
  • Confusion
  • Weakness
Take the person to the hospital's emergency department if these situations occur:
  • Fever higher than 103°F
  • Confusion
  • Sluggishness (lethargy)
  • Headache
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest or abdominal pains
  • Fainting
  • No urine in the last 12 hours

Have you gotten IV fluids for dehydration?
No Iv fluids yet. My husband works out of town and I have animals. Trying to stay here to take care of them. I'm no where near 64 ounces.
I'll call Rabkin tomorrow and see about increased comparing. Question, what I'd PPI??

Thank you
Connie

PPI= Proton Pump Inhibitor

Can your animals not be left alone for a few hours? I am pre op, but I believe going in for fluids just takes a few hours. They don't admit you to the hospital, to my knowledge. Edited to add: They would admit you if something more was happening besides dehydration.

Connie, who will care for the animals if you keel over and end up dead from dehydration?

If you don't get IV fluids, the chances are good that your animals will no longer have you around to take care of them. Now get your priorities in order and GET TO THE ER. It will only take a few hours.

PPI: Acid reducer like Protonix, Prilosec, etc. If you aren't on one, get on one. If you are on one, either try a different one or increase your current dose.

Hi, I am Ruth. I am married and have two dogs and a very elderly cat.

I go by pleaseaccept on some of the other boards. I am in the pre op stage, hoping to get insurance approval to go out of network since none of the vetted DS surgeons are in my state and in network.

I have been researching wls for about 4 years and know myself well enough to know I will be able to commit to the diet and vitamin changes needed. In fact, I have started to slowly transition to a lower carb diet since the first of the year. I figure once I am Post op, the eating changes will be habits.

I cannot wait to get to know everyone better.

I'm happy to report...that per Rabkin's advice of taking my PPI twice a day and my Compazine twice a day...my nausea has subsided today! I'm getting still getting in 64oz of fluid AND I ate some chicken today...and snacked on some beef jerky! Hoping the nausea is gone for good!! My next goal?....get back on protein shakes and keep them down...that thought still nauseates me:-/

Hello everyone , I had my DS 8 years ago. So far I have lost 13 stones. I had my DS at Kings College hospital in London. My surgeon was Ameet Patel..
