It’s been 13 years now. Although I started my journey in the spring of 2010. It was 8 months before I got my surgery.

I had to fight surgeon bias. I’m a lightweight, my starting BMI was 35.2. I signed in at 205. I was told by surgeon to not lose a single lb prior to surgery. I ate everything in sight and still signed in at the hospital at 199, I hit onderland before surgery. At the time of my surgery I was 5’4”.

I was also a type 2 insulin pump dependent also using metformin because of PCOS. My cholesterol was genetically high, well over 225. Thankfully I had never used blood pressure medications but was always high normal. My heart rate was tachycardic. Had been for decades because of a medication.

I wore a size 22 pants only because I refused to buy new pants before surgery knowing I’d only waste money.
My tops were a size 2-3xl.
Shoes were an 8.
My ring size was a 9.

This morning I weighed in at 119, height is 5’3” due to osteoporosis. Working with an osteoporosis specialist to keep it in check. Mine is currently stable.

Now, I wear a size 6 only because of my waist. Below my waist, I’m a size 4.
Tops, depending on how they are made, size Sm to Large.
Shoes, a 6.5-7, my boots are still an 8 because of thick socks.
Ring is a 7 only because of my knuckle.

My diabetes stayed resolved for 6 years, but I’m in the 2-5% that does NOT stay resolved post DS. My diabetes journey is here: https://bariatricfacts.org/threads/diabetes.5590/

My cholesterol is picture perfect, I have cardiologist envious of my numbers. My tachycardia is gone. My blood pressure is almost too low sometimes.

Now, gas…my first 2 weeks was miserable til I added some soft food and calcium. Now, it only acts up if I eat stupid. I avoid all artificial sweeteners cause they screw with my gut health and cause spikes in my blood sugars.

I started with the original Vitalady list, tweaking it when I got labs, I got labs every 6 months after my first year thru my PCP and told him what I was changing. I still tweak my own labs even now. I just let my doctor know what I’ve done and why. That list was the basis for the VL-2 list we now use. Unfortunately my new PCP only lets me get the entire list once a year.

I hate that the diabetes didn't stay gone, but I love that your cardiologist envies your cholesterol. LOL Congrats on your surgi-versary!! You look great! I would have assumed you never had weight issues in your life if I saw you in the street...

Congrats

I wish I had done it the same time as you... I knew about DS back then, but waited another 8 years. Probably could have avoided neuropathy if I'd done it earlier
