Itchy around the wounds!

This is going to drive me nuts soon. The skin around my wounds (port holes, umbilical hernia repair, drain hole) is itching like crazy. Other than slathering myself in Benedryl gel, what can I do? The nurse at the surgical office didn't have any other ideas.

Sorry that that is happening! My scars, 16 months later, still itch. Not bad anymore, luckily. You are still so fresh out of surgery just be careful and watch for infection. I would definitely try the Benadryl cream.

Try 1% hydrocortisone cream, available OTC. If there is any tape or tape residue there, clean it off thoroughly. Lots of people have tape allergies.

Could be contact dermatitis. I suffered from it after my gb was removed. They feel it was either the betadine, steri-strips or the combination. It was awful, hot and itchy. Thought I'd go out of my mind. Worse than the surgery.

After a few misfires, this is what they gave me: Prednicarbate Ointment 0.1%. It worked after a bit & saved me.
