Heading into 3rd Surgery on 2/1/21

Well, I passed the Covid test, but not the liver functions. Since my DS in 2005, they’ve gone up and down but they’re really high right now so my PCP won’t clear me for surgery, tomorrow. I have to have a liver scan. Also more blood tests.

I think I’m the only one in my family who isn’t upset. I’m glad she went over the bloods and made the decision. Maybe I can finally find out if there really is something going on or if it’s the DS.

Definitely a good call by the doc, but frustrating, I'm sure. Safety first. Hope you get answers and sorry you are going through this.

Thank you all. I appreciate it.

I also remembered that I've been fighting high Ferritin as well. (I asked the PCP to add Ferritin, et al., to her list of bloods). My Hematologist wanted a liver MRI and then Covid hit, then the ankle and I never had it. I guess this scan will take care of looking at that, too.

As I’m discovering with Charles, sometimes when you’ve got more than one medical issue going on, the noisier one gets attention at the expense of the smoldering one. Need to multitask - the liver is kinda important too.

I remind people that for ME, being at the high end of the normal range for D3 and A (as many of us try to maintain) coincided with high liver numbers, and cutting back to mid-range, with lower numbers.

Yeah, but lower D makes my osteoporosis specialist unhappy cause it raises my PTH and with osteoporosis I have that to consider. It’s a damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. Plus metformin and Celebrex are both processed thru the liver raising my numbers anyway.

I couldn't see my osteoporosis specialist wanting to lower my calcium, either. I had so much rib pain till they upped it and put me on Calcitrol that I doubt I'd be happy either.

Did either of you - southernlady or DianaCox have any pain or yellowing? I have nothing so I'm curious.

Not me. I didn’t notice a damned thing but one of my PCPs wanted a liver biopsy but I ignored him and shortly after changed PCP’s anyway. None of my other PCP’s have been concerned. The one the was was a second year Med student so I think he was being overly concerned.

Gastro. cleared me! Called up the surgeon today and am now scheduled for hardware removal, scar tissue removal and synovectomy surgery on 3/3/22. I'm going to have to go into Manhattan for it but I'm willing to do so bc I would have had to wait till 3/31/22, if I had it done closer. Have PCP clearance tomorrow and then a PCR Covid test that still has to be scheduled. I can't wait to get out of this wheelchair again & begin PT again.

Glad you are one step (or roll) closer to being through this. Please stay stafe, hydrated and keep us posted. Best wishes!
