CHarris...update!

And, because I hate being an asshole, I need to add this info: It appears she went straight from acute care to SNF, not home in-between. She wrote "inhouse rehab," I think. So naybe she transferred directly.

In either case, she has been really sick for waaaay too long.

Care Nurse, please look after Charris. She doesn't want to burden others, so she may minimize complaints or discussion of symptoms. Please dig beneath the surface. She is a life at risk and one worth saving. Please make sure she is getting DRY forms of vitamin A and D and 100+ g of protein a day, as she malabsorbs fat and protein.

Didn't she have complications immediately postop, too? Trouble healing, wound infection etc.? And wasn't she horribly, dangerously anemic?

Without saying too much - don't worry about her surgeon knowing what's going on. There's still plenty to worry about, but not that. Whether or not she is being nourished properly is an entirely separate issue.

Just wow everyone on all the advice and things that should be done! The only thing I can even think to add is that charris had problems with 8 bowel movements a day at one time. I don't know if she continued with this problem or if it ever got better but if she had any type of runny BM's then the things that where plaguing her would never get better. Until I found out Protein shakes of any type where pure evil for me my life was miserable for me and my family. My vitamin and protein levels tanked because everything ran through me like water.

I doubt very much that this helps Charris in any way but maybe it will help someone else reading this thread. I don't believe the DS is the under lying problem but it will hinder her ability for her to get better if she can't or doesn't know how to advocate for herself.

I feel so sad and useless for Charris but very happy that I belong to a group of caring knowledgeable people! All of you amaze me!

I don't know what to add that hasn't been said already, but I will add that whoever reads this needs to help advocate for her! She's got 2 kids and a brand new grand baby that need her! She's been suffering for too long and I'm very afraid of the outcome if she doesn't get real treatment.

Yikes :-O.

Here's something I really, really want you to internalize, my friend: STOP ASSUMING EVERYTHING IS ABOUT THE DS. You have some really serious stuff going on, and I'm scared for you. It's important that you please, pretty please, do NOT try to self diagnose or self treat once you get released from the hospital again, okay?

I know it's hard for you to put YOU first and be an aggressive self-advocate. But that's what has to be. The kids, grandkids, whoever else in your life that you have been putting first and wanting to take care of....they have to take a backseat. Focus only on YOU, y'hear?

****hugs*****

I'm glad you're being evaluated, and I'll be waiting on tenterhooks for updates.

This is actually from the DS. Dr. K is now heading up my care from CA. Im malnourished. My body is not using the protein correctly.
