My Switched Life so far

NA! You're doing so great. You've beat me with the water intake, I'm still only getting in one to one and a half mugs of water in. It's been a struggle. But I'm absolutely thrilled to hear you're doing so amazing. Keep up the great work :D

You're doing oh-so-well, this is how it rolls - sip, walk, rest, get in what nutrition you can, repeat. I'm glad to hear you feeling good in your body (as good as you can with major surgery!) and even more, in your head.

Even at 7.5 years out, those pesky whey protein shakes make me very bloated. I had better luck as a newbie post-op with the Atkins shakes, although I recall that they are a blend that isn't quite as well absorbed as the 100% whey shakes.

Day five has been a sore kind of day. I have walked, sipped and rested. Think I'll do the exact same tomorrow! I had yogurt for breakfast and an egg with a little cheese on top for lunch and another for dinner.

First BM today, soft but, formed. A little diarrhea later but, not too bad at all. No stink yet, even though I know it's coming!

What seems to stink is my breath and everything else in the world right now. I still have a funky, bloody taste to my mouth and everything tastes and smells off.

I might set an alarm to get up and take some of the almost worthless pain pills that I have left out of the NINE the doc gave me. Last night when I woke in pain, I just had a terrible time getting it back under control so that I could go back to sleep. I don't need pain free, just more controlled at night.

There's my bit for the day.

sorry the pain is keeping you awake :frown: what kind of pain pills did you get? probably if 9 isn't enough you can get more, or maybe something different. need your sleep!

Great job NA!
I would keep up on the protein drinks personally.
You seem to be getting enough liquids that you can water them down a bit.
Some people make them really thick for less liquid (I have done that too)
You are doing great, enjoy your NEW Anatomy!

Don't get me started on surgeons who are stingy with pain medications!!!!!!! NA, can you talk to your PCP about a teeny bit more pain meds?

My surgeon prescribed 10 of these: PERCOCET 5 mg/325 mg; the pharmacy only had 9 to give me. The usual adult dosage is one tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain. The total daily dose of acetaminophen should not exceed 4 grams. So, if I took 4 a day it is enough for 2 days plus one bonus dose.

We went round and round about pain meds in the hospital. Well, not really. I had no problem with the pain meds in the hospital. What I wanted was Phenergan for the nausea. I told every intake person I spoke to that Zofran does not work for me and that I will need Phenergan for nausea. They don't give a shit. They gave me Zofran. I puked and they finally switched to Phenergan. I get so tired of being ignored, I could boil their bunnies!

My PCP would be very uncomfortable prescribing pain pills. They are all trained to treat us like narcotic addicts seeking the dose that will finally kill us off.

What really pisses me off is that we have given them access to our medical records, if they are so concerned about how many pills we have sought out, why don't they freakin' look? They would see I have had damn few prescriptions for narcotics over my lifetime. Damn few prescriptions, period.

If my surgeon wasn't so busy running from the room all the time, maybe we could have discussed it more rationally. He doesn't listen at all!

I know that I can get through this. I just get a little whiny now and then. I slept better last night. I feel less sore today. I am sure each day will get better.

Thanks for listening!

NA, I am sorry that you are going through that. 10 stinking pills of the 5mg. When I had back surgery I was prescribed 240 5/mg a month. So I am pretty damn sure that he could have at least given you enough for 2 to 4 a day for a 2 week period. When you have surgery once the pain gets bad it is too damn late to take the meds because you have to ration your 10 stinking pills out. Girl that would PISS ME OFF!. I know people get addicted to pills but shit you had a major surgery. Its not like you had a freaking ingrown toe nail removed. I am so sorry you have to deal with that, Girl go to the er if you need more. But other than your doctor pissing you off with being stingy with the meds you sound like you are handling business. Getting those fluids in.

OMG THIS! My surgery was the first time I have ever taken pain medication regularly and the only reason I took it then was because I knew I wouldn't sleep as well without it and therefore take longer to heal. But getting a different kind because the full prescribed dose of liquid Lortab was making me hallucinate? Lord have mercy...
You are right, it will get better every day, you are doing so well.

If you need more/different pain meds, put on your insufferable bitch panties and get some! Seriously, you just had major surgery and a scrip for meds that work is the least they can do for you. Ask for something different. Vicodin worked great for me. And just like you I saved them for night time.
