The Different types of Protein Powder.

I hear ya. I discovered Optimum Nutrition Whey Isolate. They SMELL great and they TASTE great. The Rocky Road is to die for. I bought the Carmel Toffee fudge, Rocky Road and Strawberry Banana. I actually look forward to drinking them! LOL I just ordered another Rocky Road, a banana cream and Mocha Cappacinno. I bought them on Amazon. Very low carbs, vitamins and Aminos and digestive enzymes and Lactaid!!!!

FINALLY a brand I can actually buy here in Aus! OMG! :)

@marissamast Just bought some Caramel Toffee Fudge! I'm actually excited about it, haha. Hopefully I like the taste post-surgery! I also got some of the unflavored WPI from Bulk Nutrition that @Parousia mentioned since the Aussie source for Optimum nutrition I found didn't seem to have an unflavored. :) The place I bought the ON from is saying they're giving away samples of other flavors when you buy... so I'm hoping I'll get to try out some others! I was hesitant to buy TOO much pre-surgery. :)

OMG! I just tried this and it was very good. I didn't even know what flavor "Rocky Road" was (chocolate marshmallow almond) but now it is my favorite. Thanks!

YAY! Oh I am so happy you loved it too. I just got my second jug. It is really good with a splash of orange flavor too.

@more2adore @marissamast @Brandy . I am pre op but want to start drinking protein shakes for breakfast. When I researched Optimum Nutrition whey isolate it led me to bodybuilding products. That can't be what I'm looking for. Right? Also I didn't see any interesting flavors. Where should I be looking. Love to buy on line if possible.

It IS what you're looking for, Barbara! Bodybuilders, too, use low-carb, low-fat, high-protein supplements just like we do. Can't help with where to buy it in the US, but there are probably tons of places online. I'm sure @marissamast can probably tell you where she gets hers. :)

I "cheated" on my pre-op diet (kinda, not really) and tried some of the Caramel Toffee Fudge yesterday. It's not bad! Pretty tasty. :) I'll have to try Rocky Road sometime. :)

Go to amazon.com...search for optimum nutrition rocky road...there should be a drop down menu with all the flavors

Same stuff. I have a funny picture in my mind: It's early morning the day of the annual protein powder sale at the local health food store and there is a long line of body builders and us - middle aged, just past surgery MO's, waiting in line for the store to open.

Amazon <-- it seems to default to Carmel Toffee Fudge and 5 lbs, so you have to change the drop down fields for 2 lbs and Rocky road (or what ever!). $29.99 Prime.

Netrition <-- Same price (+ shipping) lots more flavors. If you are pre-surgery, these guys have good sample boxes of low carb foods to try, but too much of it won't work for the first year post surgery. They also give you a free gift if your orders are the right size and this is how I got all my protein shaker cups.

Bodybuilding.com <-- These guys are having a special as I write this: "For a limited time, buy 1 Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey, 2 Lbs. in the flavor of your choice & get 1 Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey, 3 Servings in the flavor of your choice FREE!" Same $29.99 + shipping as the other places.

Good luck and keep those questions coming!

I've been using the ON chocolate and vanilla from Costco for 3 months now even though I'm pre-op. I wanted to make sure I would both like and tolerate them.

Turns out I look forward to having one or two a day straight up with water or skim milk and have since found numerous ways to add things like bananas or sugar free pudding mix to make awesome flavor combinations. I even made a chocolate/peanut butter pie using the chocolate protein powder and PB2 with a Fiber One crust.

The only thing I haven't tried yet but want to is an unflavored powder.

I just hope I don't suddenly begin to dislike them after surgery. :(

Has anyone ever heard of this type of protein supplement?

In a lot of Aussie WLS groups, it's mentioned frequently as an alternative type of protein supplement. It doesn't have the texture of regular protein shakes - it's supposedly the same texture as when you add Crystal Light/Mio type things to your drinks (that's what Aussies call "cordial." You'll see it referenced on the webpage).

I'm VERY wary of its claims and efficacy, but a lot of dieticians around here seem to be recommending it to their patients, and I have to admit I would LOVE to not have to contend with the texture and flavor of my usual protein shakes. I'm guessing this is a no-go - but what do the rest of you think?

I just noticed that while it claims to be "equivalent to 25g of WPI" it only has 5g protein in it. Uh... o_O I'm asking in the groups if people use more than one serving a day (like if they add it to their water every time they're drinking or something) but wow, that seems crappy.
