Hello all! My name is Will and I'm a soon to be DS'er. Having my surgery in Mexico because my stupid insurance wouldn't cover it. I recently hit 412lbs and, while I don't really have any comorbidities yet, figured I'd better deal with this problem once and for all. I'm excited about DS! I'm an RN and have researched this procedure exhaustively, and I believe it's the right move for me. I realize there's likely a HUGE gap between having an idea of how something will be versus experiencing it in actuality. I know I face a challenging road over the next couple of years, and for the rest of my life after that I will be required to maintain constant vigilance of my nutritional needs. I am greatful for the many who've come before me who care enough about their fellow man to share their experiences/tips/suggestions,etc. Lord knows theory can be good-but nothing beats practical experience! Anyhoo...it's a pleasure meeting you all. :)

:rainbowwelcome: Will! This place along with DSfacts.com is a wealth of information. I have learned so much from the vets here.

Hey Will! Welcome! I was a self-pay too, well worth it! I only had to travel as far as California for my surgery. He was more than half off of what my local surgeon wanted to charge me. I wish you all the best!

Hi Everyone! My wife had DS surgery with Dr Rabkin in December of 2012. Lots of complications afterwards with eating and being backed up, but we got through it. This site was recommended by someone on one of the Facebook site as the best site for information.

:welcomebanner: @ltldog15 The people on this site are the best! They don't sugarcoat and may sound like they are yelling sometimes but it is because they genuinely care about people.

Hello All,

I got my insurance approval on Friday and am scheduled for surgery on this Thursday. Dr. Rabkin is doing a revision from an old lap band that eroded and was removed a couple of years ago. He said it might end up open as I have had several surgeries, ovaries, cysts and a tt.
Hoping that some of you can answer some questions I have. One, do I need to have vitamins with me in California? Probiotics? How well will I be able to move four days after surgery with the worst-case open incision?
Thank you all so much.
Connie

Hi Connie and welcome! Congratulations on your surgery date!

Thank you. Thank you for being here to help. I really thought I would have a couple of weeks to get ready for the surgery. I'm wondering about having probiotics with me to go to California as well as vitamins for the post surgery time do you have any thoughts on that?
