Hi All-

Was asked to post my experience with Dr. Alejandro Lopez at Vida Wellness in Mexico. Here goes:

After much research I found Dr. Lopez through a medical tourism company. Since figured out that I could have just booked directly....oh well.

I had had a crap band for 6 years with very limited success. Prior to that I had a lot of problems with reflux and bleeding ulcers and had a Nissan Fundiplication done. I had to go to a very skilled surgeon to get that taken down before the lap band could be done so there was a lot of scarring.

I had a revision from lap band to a full DS on 11/2/15 with a hiatal hernia repair at the same time.

I found Dr. Lopez and his staff to be very professional and quite skilled. He was able to work around a large hiatal hernia and even found a second one that a CT scan stateside didn't detect. My surgery went pretty well although I did have a reaction to something which caused my arm to swell for a few hours but they called the doctor at midnight and he came in and got me fixed up.

I flew home to Seattle on Friday after a Monday surgery. I was pretty sore but did ok. Rested at home one more week and was back at work the next Monday....granted a desk job! My healing went very well and I had very little bruising!

I have nothing but praise for the staff and doctors at VIDA. Dr. Lopez responds to any and all concerns very quickly either with messaging or a phone call. Nutritionist is always available as well and everyone in Mexico was so much nicer than I expected!

I'm down 45# since October - still have about 100# to go and it's coming off. I miss carbs though but have discovered I am a beef jerky connoisseur now!

Um, I would like to hope that the OP is the person whom I led here from our FB group to post her experience. So quit shitting on her and ask questions that will elicit more responses, especially peeps like newbie postop @CaraOC. You, my dear, are wayyyyy too new to have earned bitch credentials unless you post peer reviewed evidence to support your cuntishness.

Ironic how you excoriate a new member under the guise of protecting new members. Whether the OP's post was a sales pitch or not and whether CaraOC's response was unwarranted or not (although how is she supposed to know who you've referred from FB?), your assertion that only old timers are allowed to give opinions (unless they can support their "cuntishness") is disheartening, divisive and entitled bullshit. Or am I too new to speak?

Now returning to the OP: We had our surgeries about the same time, mine in Mexicali. I'm glad you had a good experience. I sympathize regarding your arm; my IV line became infiltrated and my hand looked like Popeye's. And congratulations on your weight loss success!

Hi @windyridge4mom - glad you came over! As a rule this site is extremely helpful and insightful. I often use the bookmark feature to save info or references that I may not need today but suspect I will in the future.

I am glad that your experience was great in the MX. I am curious what was wrong with your arm that required a physician. I know an infiltrated IV would not. I also understand if you choose not to answer. One thing you will discover here - we talk about everything and anything personal from hair falling out to poops.

It DOES look like another shill post...we've had a few lately. Good catch. (And anyone who doesn't "get" why you responded the way you did is probably drinking again...or still. These things appear in cycles and you'll learn to see them coming.)

However, the shills generally join and immediately post about how great their doctor/consultant/med tourism group is. In this case, I clicked on her history and saw that she had been around several months without trying to sell us anything...so, unlike that new johndean person, she is likely a "real person."

In a related post, the name "A. Ortiz" was mentioned.

I would send only my worst enemies to him. I observed one of his behaviors with one of his patients, heard about it from other bariatric surgeonS (plural) and then he tried it on me.

He calls it "The Psychological Fill." He...I kid you not...PRETENDS to add saline to the band, but first he berates the patient, telling her that he shouldn't add more saline because she is the least compliant he has ever had, and this is her last chance.

He was called out on that technique when he shared it at a Bariatric Surgeons' Conference and a couple of banded surgeons jumped out of their seats and started yelling at him...or so I have been told by three surgeons who were there.

My only complaint about the OP's post is that it names the medical tourism company. That should be removed. And as she figured out too late, NO ONE who wants bariatric surgery in Mexico needs to use one of those companies. Any bariatric surgeon in Mexico who accepts patients from the USA (and they all seem to) will have staff who can assist you with any and all arrangements, for no fee. And those companies don't exactly scour the country to find you the most qualified surgeon for your individual needs. They contract with specific surgeons and that's who they will send you to.

Now as to you, @Elizabeth N. - you would be the first to call out someone else for forum nannying. And there you are, not just doing it yourself but being extremely nasty about it. So I'll call YOU out. Knock off the nannying! If someone smells a shill or a troll, they have every right to say so. If they are wrong, they can humbly apologize later. @CaraOC was not out of line, given the recent extremely obvious shill post regarding a different surgeon.

So I see our resident loon has decided to grace another post with her nastiness again - I wonder what her excuse is this time for her outlandish behavior. The ignore button is fairly effective (except when someone else quotes or references her behavior) to avoid dealing with such people.

That post sure looks shillish to me - doesn't even say what surgery was done in the post! I wonder if it was even a true DS? I've heard the MX surgeons are jumping on the short-cut (and short-shrift) SADI bandwagon.

Well in the crock pot today is some pulled pork! Yes, Elizabeth asked me from Facebook to post my experience with Dr. Lopez. I didn't know I would be causing such a stir! It's interesting that some of the same people who welcomed me to this site were so quick to call me a shill. A bit sad but I see I should have been a little more descriptive.

I had a revision from a lap band to a full DS with Dr. Lopez on 11/2/15. Not sure what else I need to say. I was unaware that I should not have posted the medical tourism company and will see if I can't delete that.

I typically use this site for good nutrition and vitamin information and try to stay out of the drama. I think that if a good surgeon in Mexico is properly vetted and someone has personal experience, why not get that information out there? I did a self pay for my lap band to the tune of $25K because of my complications. There was no way I could afford to see one of the "recommended" surgeons in the states so I chose to go to Mexico.
