I figure that Sheanie may not be the only gifted person, so...I’m asking all of y’all.

Does anyone know how to ”fix” this or keep it from getting worse? It’s a smallish L-shaped tear in the leather on the back seat passenger door.

Lexus says we can replace that panel for about $900+. Seems a bit extreme for something so tiny. Also, we have no idea how it got there. A too-big package? Car wash oops? Little girl shoes? Who knows? Point being: we don’t know how to prevent the next one.

Looks like:

Crazy glue? Check fabric store (or Amazon, etc) for some kind of fabric glue? That product you see advertised on TV that will hold the bottom of your boat together? Ask Dr. K to suture it for you?

Hmm, I see him in just over a week...I’ll tell him you said I should ask him!

Now did I, or did I not, suggest Amazon?? But thank you, Sheanie, for providing an actual product that should work.

Indeed you DID! And I’m not saying Sheanie’s response was...you know...better...but a search for “leather glue” yielded 20,000+ results, and searching for Fortivo Leather Repair Whatever yielded FOUR results...and I’m 73 and may not have unlimited time at my disposal...so there’s THAT.

well, that's just ridiculous!

Ya think? I’ve had CARS that cost less! :lmao: Specifically, the $150 Chevy that BARELY ran that was all we could afford when we came back from Germany after the Army! Car color was not any KNOWN color and all seats, covered with blankets, spewed cotton stuffing any time we moved in our seats!

Ah, Spiky. The memories. Our '66 Chevy II was the best. Robins egg blue. Took us through dental school and back. Floor rusted completely through, covered with sheet metal and kept going. It was a gem.

Not only will the Fortivo cost substantially less than $900, you'll have it for when this happens again. Such a deal!

Yes! And I sent Fortivo the photos and asked which product I should buy. They answered and told me to tell them when I get it so they can help with color mixing!

In HS, my sister's then boyfriend, later husband, now ex-husband, had a real adventure of a car:
1–he could only park on a hill, so he could pop the clutch to start it;
2-it apparently had no first gear, so to pick up friends, he had to circle the block with the passenger door open and his first passenger would hop in...then lather, rinse, repeat for passengers #3-5.

And, Sheanie...remember when you could drive for quite a while on 50¢ worth of gas? Gawd, I’m old!

I'm likely not as skilled as others here that successuflly patched leather, but the only fixes I've tried, showed because I suck at matching the color perfectly. I had an antique chair that needed a mend to the leather recently, and was referred by a place that usually can fix any furniture, to a auto restorer that specializes in leather. I had to drive the chair to portland, an hour away, but considering it's already part of your car, getting it to a good repairer would be easy. Then again, my daily driver is meant to be abused, so I'd just get some really strong flexible glue, and use a butterfly bandage to pull it shut while the unsightly goo dried.
