Wow, what happened?

I'm just copying over a message between me and southern lady. It's easier to not retype. I've posted some things here and there about him. Basically he's just unprofessional and narcissistic. To my knowledge he's a good surgeon.....just not a good person. I'm tired of dealing with it. I'm done. To his credit (not that he deserves it) there was one visit where he wasn't terrible. He was actually pleasant. I think I've had 7 visits with him over the last year. All but that one were like that. I had to argue to get my DS. He opening admitted to me that he was sleeving patients knowing they would be back for revision to DS at some point (ya know...so he could get paid for 2 surgeries).

In June he was terrible at my 3 month appt. My 6 month was even worse. His office manager told me in June she was settling insurance payments and wasn't sure what the remainder of my balance would be. She said she'd be in contact when she worked it out. I never heard from her. I got a bill right before my 6 mo appt and called her to verify she settled the insurance end and it was the correct amount. She didn't return my phone call, so I figured we'd settle up at my appt. No big deal. He literally walked into my exam room and said "what the ****? Do you have a problem with my office or something? Why do you have a balance? I normally don't get involved in these insurance and billing issues, but I didn't even want to do your surgery. I did it as a professional FAVOR TO YOU and this is how you repay me??" That's what the man said. Word for word. I attempted to explain what went on with insurance and billing. His response was "well if you pay the balance I'll just forgive all this and let it go" I lost it. Just totally lost it. I walked into the managers office and paid the balance ($300 and some change), got my op report and my discharge summary and left. I just don't understand. It wasn't like it was thousands of dollars and if the money was so damn important to him why didn't the office manager call me when she settled the insurance payment like she said she would? I mean...at my last appt he told me he got paid already. Ya know...when I told him I struggled in the beginning and thought I may have made a mistake and he said "it's not my ******* problem because I got paid".

I'd also like to add I'm not some crazy hard to take care of patient. I'm a pretty easy going person. I've been compliant for the most part (he didn't like that I listened to the vets for vitamin and nutrition advice....but he hasn't lived with DS and they have...so I don't care what his opinion is). He's always questioned anything I do. Especially the vitamins and nutrition.

He does. And he's not professional. I didn't realize this until recently, but a girl I went to high school with visited him for DS several years ago. She opted not to have surgery at all because she wanted DS and he was terrible to her. She recently contacted me to tell me about her story. I don't think he started off that bad. I think it has happened over time.

@DianaCox I had forgotten about him...shame on me. I contacted him to do a band-to-DS revision for me...nine years ago...and ask if he had taken down any bands. He asked if I was kidding and said that fully 20% of his procedures were band REMOVALS, almost a decade ago.

This is taking a lot longer that we had hoped, but we are waiting for DSFacts to be updated with a new format and "objective" information presentation that is in process. When that happens, we will figure out how to present OUR subjective assessments of the surgeons who claim to do the DS. So please keep posting the surgeon info here! It will eventually be put into a useful format.

Jacques HATES bands with a passion. When he speaks at conferences it is usually on why the band should be banned!

I'll give the information for my surgeon, in case there are other Aussies wanting to pursue the DS, but with this caveat: he doesn't seem to want to be advertised as a DS surgeon, by his former patients at least, so not sure if he'd be willing to send info for the DS Facts list.

I believe there is at least one other surgeon in Australia performing the DS (@K-J knows more about him than I do), but Peter Nottle is an excellent surgeon and has the most experience with the DS.

UPDATE:
After lots of bitching about my surgeon I'm switching docs. Dr. Boyce in Knoxville is willing to take me. I got the call today. I meet with him Nov 13th. I've been a textbook case so far. Labs are great (doing vitalady and adjusting as needed AND listening to the vets!!!) and feeling pretty good! I'm excited about my appt and I'm hoping to have a MUCH better experience during the rest of my follow up.

No idea if this helps but....
Dr. Matthew French at Surgical Specialists of Louisiana did my VSG. They are a group of doctors. Their website says they do the DS and when I went to see him a few weeks ago and I asked him what my options were for the regain. He suggested more exercise and getting back to basics and if that didn't work he recommended the DS as a surgical option.

@jjordan8130 , I think I recall that Boyce is HORRIBLE with his aftercare vitamin & diet advice. Since you are a nurse, you might do well with a regular doctor who is younger and knows the DS. I found one, but the verdict is still pending on him. At my last check up, he called my surgery RNY.
