Well you are super qualified to comment. I appreciate your input Diana. I’ve been on all the boards. This was a new one for me. Glad I joined.

Can you send me a copy of your vitamins and especially the brand names for the dry ADEKs? I could use your help to review some of them.

I am definitely not underweight. I’m steady at 178 lbs. 5’4”. Don’t forget I’m diabetic. That truly makes life more complicated. However I’m handling it fairly well. My A1c is an incredible 4.8. I know how to watch my blood glucose and test 5-7 times daily.

Thanks again Diana for your input.

I get my A (25K IU, 2/week), D3 (50K IU, 5/week), K1 (1000 mg?, 2/week) and K2 (125 mg?, 2/week), and my magnesium citrate (250 mg, 2/day) from Vitalady. I don't know if they are the cheapest, but I like to support her business.

I buy my E (Now brand, Dry E-400 U) (2/week), and my Zinc-Copper complex (Solaray) (50 mg/2 mg, 2/week) from Amazon. Sometimes my Primal Defense Ultra (1/day) too, or whomever is selling it the cheapest on the web.

I buy Citrical Max (2 per 633 mg dose, twice/day) and Vit C (500 mg 2/day), orange chewables, because they are a delicious reward for taking my pills), and my Culturelle (1/day) from Costco.

Walgreens for Zinc tablets (50 mg, 2/day, except on the days I take the Zn-Cu), Prenavite prenatals (1/day) and niacin (2/week) (or sometimes on Amazon).

I get my iron by infusion - haven't needed one in 3.5 years this time.

But there are LOTS of good options - people will often post what they've tried.

I was an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic before DS. My DS did not resolve my diabetes but it DID have me in remission for 6 years. I am 7 1/2 years post op. Yes, my diabetes has returned.

Other than watching carbs and being careful, the DS is actually ideal for diabetics. I'm also 5'4" and weighed 144 this morning. My labs are stellar (except for my a1c which my doctor and I are working on). It was a 6.6 the last time and due to my age, 64, he does not want me under a 6.0. I want between a 5.5 and a 6.0.

Diana, it's great that you do so well with such comparatively small doses... only 25K of A twice a week? I take 75K/day. Only 50K D five times a week? I take 200,000 a day! And 2,000/day of K1. And only 1,266/day of calcium? Is something wrong with me, or are you just a super absorber?!

I go by my labs. I probably should take more calcium because of my age (just turned 65), but I've been lazy about taking an extra dose midday. And I eat quite a bit of dairy (cheese, cottage cheese, milk in doses under 4 oz). My PTH is ok-ish.

My liver numbers went up when I was taking twice as much D3 and A. So I cut back, and my liver numbers went down, and vitamin numbers are still OK. But my liver numbers were back up in July (seeing liver specialist tomorrow), so we'll see what s/he has to say (it will be a new person).

There is no "one-size-fits-all" for DS supplements. And it changes over time.

I didn't add A until Feb 2017. Saw mine trending down so I added it on Sat & Sun. I wasn't low just heading down. Next set of labs, my A went back up to where it had been.

I take very little calcium compared to most (a dose at breakfast and a dose at dinner) but my PTH with Citracal along with my nice D number has been running around 20 (range is 15-65) so I am extraordinarily happy with my PTH.

Wow. Wonder what would happen if I just lowered my A dose. The serum level might not drop.

Amazing have you have osteoporosis but such wonderful PTH!

That’s because there are other causes at play. Female, over 40, and especially genetics. Can’t fix those so I fix what I can. And I can make sure of my PTH number.
