He's been working on the television series and the books are loooong. So I hope George RR gets the next one(s) out, but I'm not counting on it. Love the books, but I sort of stopped watching television a couple of years ago so I don't watch the series anymore.

Yup, he's been writing the series since the 90s, and with 2 more (at least) to go, plus all the other projects he's working on now, I'm doubtful too. I'm one of those that's kind of obsessed (starting to read them for the 3rd time ) so I'll really be heartbroken. I hope he has the destiny of Westeros written in his will ;)

Lol, hopefully, but knowing George RR Martin's sadistic streak, he may find it very satisfying to leave us all hanging.

Start of spoiler...
I still *hope* that Jon Snow is alive (even though there's little hope with how indiscriminate Mr Martin is). Because of his rumored parentage I hope he's not dead. Well, and I like him. He and Arya are my faves. Then Tyrion.
http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Jon_Snow/Theories - I think the Lyanna Stark theory holds water.

yes, yes and yes!!! Arya and Jon Snow are my faves, Tyrion is up there as well. I fell a little out of love with Dany in the last book, but is still hope she and the dragons raise hell in Westeros :) so I've read so many theories online and yes, I 100% believe in the Rhaegar/Lyanna Stark theory. I also read something that rings true- we never know for certain if someone is really dead (in the books) unless we see it in another character's point of view chapter. GRRM likes to trick us and leave us hanging at the end of almost every chapter so I'm holding out hope that Melisandre is going to bring Jon back. He just can't die yet, I refuse to believe it. Plus I think Kit Harrington is one of the sexiest men alive :D:rolleyes:

Totally agreed! I also read somewhere about GRR's use of POV.
Apparently never believe something if it's from their own POV (point of view). Makes sense.
And I didn't know that there was BBCode for spoilers, thanks!

Edited to include that I should have read the whole thread and then I would've known that there was a spoiler button. Ooops.

New book out next month!

The World of Ice and Fire, a comprehensive history of Martin's world, will be released on Oct. 26 in New York. It's billed as a "lavishly illustrated" volume spanning from the Dawn Age to the fall of the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen.

The complexity of the Game of Thrones universe has long fascinated fans, and the book should answer even casual readers' questions. Who were the First Men? Who was Aegon the Conqueror? It will also shed light on how past events caused the bloody struggles between the Baratheons, Starks and Lannisters.
Martin co-wrote the book with Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson, the webmasters of Westeros.org and the authorities on Game of Thrones' complex world and storylines. According to Vulture, the couple also fact-checked the Ice and Fire books to ensure continuity and accuracy.

Yay!!! I got this confused with the illustrated book of maps that's supposed to come out soon (or maybe recently came out?) so I'm stoked that it'll actually be something to read and not just illustrations! (Although I want that too :D)

I just got the first book in the mail. I'm planning to read it in that hectic period right before and after moving when I can't have any library books out from the old city and haven't yet found the library at the new city.

can't wait, it looks great (has maps! I love maps!)
