Having go bags ready just in case is wise. Honestly, I’m not sure I’d wait. I’d be finding someplace out of the fire area to go stay for a week or so. Maybe go visit a good friend.
We are out of the fire area…just close to it.

Our Earthquake Shed has our go-bag stuff. It’s 1.5 miles from here.

BTW…my sister, daughter and I live in a 2.2 mile long kind of straight line. I’m on the west, kid is in the middle, sister on the east. My sister’s son is a Captain w/the FD. He is on the sick-lame-lazy list, pending surgery for work-related injuries, so he is NOT working this mess.

BUT, he’d make sure his mom, cousin and FAVORITE aunt were told to get out if need be. His sister actually lives IN Pasadena…Eaton Canyon is in Pasadena…but is staying put because:
A) she is not in an evacuation area, and
B) I kid you not, her cat had oral surgery and “isn’t up to” being moved.

She’ll move him if she’s evacuated.
I hope so. She’s an odd character. And she had no plans to evacuate, you see.

In HS, she had a part-time job at a dept store in a 4-store chain. When they folded, she moved to a large chain. She is pushing 53 and is still there. (She has done well, bc that job is her life.). We think she has one female friend, a former coworker. We don’t think she’s ever been on a date.

She doesn’t usually communicate directly with anyone except her mother or in an emergency. If any of us call her, we go to VM. Then she calls her mother and says, “Aunt Sue [or Grandma or MiniSue] called. Do you have any idea why?”

We DID talk some years ago when she went to LAX when her dad was being MediVac’d out of his European vacation. She had never been to the airport and didn’t know how to find the International Terminal. (They have a sign or two…and a non-stop radio broadcast that helps you find your way.).

One day, when I was flying alone from Las Vegas to Burbank, the airline had oversold the flight. They came on board and offered a seat on the next flight (in an hour), a voucher for a free RT flight, and a refund for the flight I was on. I volunteered. She COULD NOT fathom how anyone would willingly change plans and arrive an hour later than they had originally planned. Just.could.not.grasp changing plans.

I mean…I lack social skills, but she’s so odd she makes me a viable candidate for Miss Congeniality!

I hope she doesn’t need to evacuate, because change is not her friend.

I’m not one for change but even would have done what you did.

Well @Spiky Bugger you might not be Miss Congeniality, but you could be Miss Photogenic, based on that avatar.
All kidding aside, I dread the thought of evacuating, but if I had to, the dogs, cats and I would all be packed into the car and headed to safety. And I wouldn't care if all of them and even I had just had surgery. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do.
And actually, I find you very congenial.

@Spiky Bugger, I agree with Larra. I find you very congenial! Hope all remains okay for you and yours. And hopefully, if need be, your homebody niece would evacuate with cat. Sounds like she is possibly on the spectrum or somewhat agoraphobic. Leaving her safe zone must be a particularly scary thought for her. Wishing all well!

We've been a bit worried about one of Hannah's suitemates as she is in Granada Hills. Classes don't begin until Jan 27 for them, so she is not due back on campus yet.

Glad you are good. How about putting some well-equipped go bags together at the apartment too, just in case. Hope it stays good where you are.
have you done that yet, @Spiky Bugger ????

yes, what Hilary said about her; my first thought was neurodivergent in some way.

I'm hearing the winds will get bad again soon....isn't there someone you & your husband can go visit for a bit, get away from LA ?

I could be wrong, but I think she's near one of the smaller fires that is being brought under control, not Pacific Palisades. My cousins, otoh, are near the big one, so I had better check in on them.
