Does someone have Spiky’s phone number?

Okay! Finally went and got them. The backpacks are for EXTREME grab and go situations. The rolling carts contain changes of clothes, and cans of food, cans of 50-year water and a teeny stove. We will examine them tomorrow.

Meanwhile, my Sick-Lame-Lazy about-to-retire fire dept nephew called. He hasn’t had electricity, except from his generator, for a week. If desperate, he and his wife can move into their RV. He assured us he’d call…so we could go get his mom, too. But we DID ask each other about his sister…and wondered if she’d answer a call from him. We are not sure she would.

I'm hearing the winds will get bad again soon....isn't there someone you & your husband can go visit for a bit, get away from LA ?

We love each other so much, we’ve gathered in one zip code! Brilliant, huh?

Except for my nephew, who is not in a danger area, but has been electricity free for a week!

This IS an extreme situation. Glad you went and got them. Don’t forget vitamins and prescriptions and money. And a charger for at least one cellphone or tablet.

IMG_0090.jpegI could be wrong, but I think she's near one of the smaller fires that is being brought under control, not Pacific Palisades. My cousins, otoh, are near the big one, so I had better check in on them.
Unfortunately, we are near the second largest fire, the Eaton Canyon mess.

We have decided to stay here until the authorities tell us to leave, because:
•family is nearby
•we are awfully NON-portable with (difficult to follow outside home base) medication, meal, sleeping routines
•with well over 100,000 evacuated, getting out of harm’s way means going FAR away
•if we relocated, we’d need to know where to get medical care and prescriptions (we don’t use CVS because our SMALL chain drug store delivers at no extra charge) in a new location.

@Spiky Bugger, maybe see if you can get extras of your prescriptions, filled early due to the emergency? Being non-portable will make a last-minute evacuation much harder and your ride / family may get stuck in traffic. Please please consider leaving now.

If I may suggest, a stove is likely unnecessary, and consider limiting food to dietary items that are required but are hard to find at a regular grocery. Instead pack more changes of underwear, socks, important paperwork (address book/contact list/password list, social security cards, insurance policies, passports, bank account numbers, key medical records, credit cards), a laptop/tablet and a handful of the most precious photos. Any immediate care / urgent care center can do in a pinch. Better to be away and near a doctor you don't know but can access than stuck in traffic with a medical emergency arising during a mass evacuation. Do not forget your phone or charger. Sorry for the unsolicited advice, just really worried about you.

Please stay safe.

@Spiky Bugger, we don’t use CVS either. Small pharmacy’s seem to care more about the person than the big chain. But you need out of there. I’m sure a good friend or family member would take you in. Hell, if we were closer, you’d be welcome here but coming all the way across country isn’t necessary. Although it’d be fun and interesting.

But…but…it’s teeny, tiny and can heat a can of soup!

I’m going to empty my bags and see what I have that hasn’t expired!

Sweet! But our friends/family are old, lame and also in the area. And I’m dealing with a guy who keeps “losing” the driveways we need…to get into our house and our apartment. He can point the car. And make it go and stop on red and not hit pedestrians, but he needs a navigator. He would NOT do well with relocating. (Would he, @Susan in Tennessee ?)

Besides it would take you almost two days without stops to get here, Diana is SSSSOOOO much closer.

Well, my ears were burning! Hi all.

I’ve been checking in with my brothers (in the South Bay, far from the fires, but not the smoke) and Sue, and she already knows she and Mr. Sue are welcome here any time, as long as they aren’t going to die from catbestosis or asthma on me. And I know lots of doctors and pharmacies, including the VA, around here.

And who knows, maybe she’ll be so impressed, she’ll come live here in Heaven’s Waiting Room and Golf Course.
