Carry-on Luggage

On Delta you are allowed 1 carry-on and 1 personal item.

So What Exactly Is Allowed?
Approved Personal Items

• 1 purse, briefcase, camera bag or diaper bag
• or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked)
• or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above

So, my question is for anyone who has flown Delta, can you use a normal size back pack as your personal item? It is just a day pack to hold a laptop. I am going to try it tomorrow unless I get a definite no.

United allows backpacks and so does the TSA. I am just a little worried about Delta. They are all different.

If it fits under the seat in front of you (with your larger bag presumably in the overhead compartment), you should be fine.

I currently have a woman sitting next to me with a full rolling carry on, plus a small duffel as her "personal item". I've used pretty large purses for that

When our daughter worked for an airline, she discovered that if you are wearing it, it doesn't count. Someone wore an overcoat with big pockets and pretty much carried a file cabinet in those pockets. But it wasn't Delta.

I always travel with a Roller-bag, Purse, and a Backpack. I've have never had any issues. Both my purse and Backpack fit under the seat in front of me.

We are back, the backpack was a non-issue. My passport, on the other hand, got me stopped twice. Time for an early renewal I think. One of the border patrol guards called over a supervisor and had me pulled out of line. I was able to pass after some extra scrutiny.
