:(

I'm sad for MiniSue because her friend died. Probably 44-47 years old. Apparently, the cause was complications from a stroke...but that poor child...

She WAS, at best, obese...probably MO. Which likely caused the Type II Diabetes. Which caused renal failure. So she was on 3x/wk dialysis. When she had the work-up for the kidney transplant, they found cancer. She underwent chemo, and won that battle. She was approved to get back on the transplant list. And she had a stroke. She was at a hospital that specializes in stroke care...MiniSue visited her last week...she had planned on being released this Tuesday... But somehow, she ended up dying in a different hospital from complications of that stroke.

I wonder...if she had had bariatric surgery...would she still be with us?

(And it's not like she had an easy life before all this...poor thing.)

Because she needed a kidney, she was aware of how bad the need was for organ donations.

I know that the hospital where she died DOES allow for organ/tissue/etc "recovery." I know this because a fruend who was in great health, and was murdered, had a 20+ hour procedure for "everything" recovery at that facility.) "Harvesting" is now politically incorrect.) While her organs were probably shot, I wonder if her corneas or tissue might have been up to donation.

Hmmmm.

I am so sorry for your and miniSue's loss. Such a sad story!

Diabetes (usually type 2) and high blood pressure are far and away the most common causes of kidney failure in this country. Of course bariatric surgery isn't for everyone for several reasons, but it sounds like, for this woman, it might have made a big difference. You didn't say what kind of cancer she had, but obese and MO people are also at higher risk for a bunch of different cancers, so that might have been weight related as well.

Lymphoma.

And, as far as risk groups, she was African-American, in her 40's and from a VERY poor background...which moves her out of several high-risk groups. I think.

It's so sad. It used to be people assumed that they would live long to get old. 40 is way too young. Of course i say that because I am 41. I feel bad for MiniSue and her friend's family. Diabetes is the reason I had WLS. When I became a brittle diabetic and my kidneys shut down in 1997 I realized I had to do something about my weight. So I had gastric bypass in 2000. Then in 2012 I had become diabetic again.

Sad thing you see all these organizations trying to find the cure for this or that but rarely hear any trying to find the cure to obesity that is killing people just as rapid as all the other diseases.

Good grief, woman! You are my daughter's age and a grandmother. Gawd, I'm old. Lol

@Charris I am finding out all kinds of things about you in the last 24 hours. First I saw that you said in another post that you are 4'11 and now that you are only 41. You are a youngster and a shorty. :p

@DSRIGGS I'm definitely short. Now, I'm not sure about the being young. I thought everyone knew my age. I guess not. I realized that when Spiky made the comment about my age and me being a Granny. I'm young compared to what? Lol
