What the feck just happened????

Oh...subscribe to Mother Jones and to the Washington Post. (I know, but great articles by Farenthold.) Join the ACLU. Donate to Planned Parenthood (or NARAL.). The Southern Poverty Law Center deserves support. Join the Color of Change mailing list. CREDO is working. Follow David Corn on Twitter. And others.

When you encounter racists and other idiots, be informed enough to call them out.

I did some rough calculations on how to *fight back*. If I were go to DC around inaugural time, roughly $500.00. I looked at a Planned parenthood site and found that some abortions costs about $500.00. (Admittedly, the costs will vary depending on location, stage of pregnancy, and other factors.) Does anyone really think that thousands of protesters in DC will change anything? As Spiky pointed out there are many organizations that will be happy to take donations. If one does not or cannot give time or money, it's time well spent educating one's self and calling the idiots out.

I absolutely support the rights to free speech and to assemble. I just don't think a march on DC Jan 21 will bring about change. You know that old saw that actions speak louder than words?

Yeah. I don't want to stand out in the January cold and try to find a place to pee with 100k other women. But, I remember the impact of the civil rights marches and the Vietnam protests. The Womens March on Washington shows the world we are not passively accepting misogyny, the alt-right, grabbing pussy, beauty being equated with value, rating women on a 1-10 scale, taking away healthcare subsidies, etc. I can't make an equal impact from my comfortable chair at the computer. And, I'm mad as hell about how women are being treated and I'm not going to take it any more, to quote the movie, Network.

I don't think it will change anything immediately, but I hope it makes them think twice about decisions about women. There are one day round trip buses from NY for $80, so it depends on where you live. And I made contributions to women's healthcare groups, subscribed to a daily newspaper in print, and made other donations as well. Why is it that women's healthcare is equated with abortion? I hope the WMW brings local groups of women together to act together politically in their communities and states. It already seems to have hit a nerve, if you read some of the online crap.

I'm trying to think of a powerful sign to carry. So far, "I will pay Trumps taxes if he pays mine" or "Deport the alt-right from the White House" or "You can't grab my pussy or my healthcare" or "without Obamacare, I'd be as bankrupt as Trump's casino" ... Still thinking...

I'm glad you are here, Spiky - it makes me feel better.

What a sweet thing to say. I have just been crazy busy (and crazy sad about the election) and kind of worn out doing every-other-week before-school child care for a 6-year-old. But sooooo fun.

Early Monday afternoon:
Her: I think I want a little nap.
Me: You know where your room is.
Her: Can I have a movie?
Me: Sure
Her: This is My. Best. Day. Ever!
Me: I am so glad.
Her: Yeah. I wanted to hang out with you guys, but Daddy and I kept having fun and then it got too late.
Me: Well, I'm glad you're here now.

Later that day, as I related that story to her dad:
Him: Hey! You said YESTERDAY was your best day ever.
Her: Uhm...it WAS. Then.
Me: How great would life be if we were all able to declare every day our "Best.Day.Ever!"

@KathrynK Be safe. I'm always concerned about counter-protestors. Or idiots who want to use violence. I'd like to think that all the post-op protests were supposed to be peaceful and were "crashed" by yahoos.

I was using abortion as an example, yet as you say it is hardly the only women's health care issue. Just as an aside have insurance companies started covering birth control or at least stop covering men's little blue pills*? I know men's little blue pills was originally developed as a hypertension medication until they figured out they could make more money marketing to impotent men. I was on birth control pills for hormonal issues, but since it was prescribed for other than birth control it was covered.

My personal favorite: without Obamacare I'd be as bankrupt as Trump's casino.

Be safe!

*The software would not allow the post to go through with the V brand name. (I found that amusing considering all the other words we use here. LOL)

I don't even think it was really all about abortion. I think he won because he told the working poor and the middle class he would bring back the jobs on "day one". And for some strange reason, they believed him.

They never asked HOW he was going to do this magic trick. They just believed him.

@KathrynK I just read an article about 2,000,000 bikers are supposed to be in DC to "Defend" Trump's inauguration. Lord have mercy. I did a quick Google search and the numbers may be overestimated, yet in these crazy times, I'm trying to keep my shock and blood pressure in control.

Please be safe.
