I took my torn rotor cuff to the guy in my Ortho’s office who specializes in shoulders, knees and elbows (somebody had to favor those joints.) He looked. He poked. He asked. He reviewed radiology reports.

At this point, he left the room and, because of how the doctor looked, I asked MrSue, “Is he 14?”

The doctor sought permission from me, got it and shot me with lidocaine and steroids. I told him I‘d wondered if he was 14. He laughed and said he hope to be able to KEEP looking young.

I was told that once the lidocaine wore off, it might…for a couple of days…hurt more than before. But…

Today was the first day IN 11 MONTHS I didn’t wake up jonesing for my next opioid fix. The shoulder pain, has been the “priority pain” demanding my brain’s attention for almost a year. Suddenly, my old stand-by, chronic ankle/knee/hip issues made themselves known. I took my opioid, but only half of the prescribed amount. Wow!

btw, from CA Med Board:

SCHOOL NAME: GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
GRADUATION YEAR: 2016

So, maybe he’s 17?

I’m happy you have gotten some relief from the shoulder pain. Will it eventually wear off or did he say?

He wants to see, for himself, the last two MRIs. He was explaining that the pain could be coming from two or three areas. So, I go back in two months. Meanwhile, the steroid should eliminate some inflammation and pain.

My steroid shots tend to last a few months not just a week or so. I get them in my knee periodically. But they really screw with my blood sugar levels for a week.

Im glad it’s helping. And yes, the doctors are getting younger or are we getting older?

You may find that the relief from the steroid injection lasts a surprisingly long time, and hopefully it can be repeated as well. I'm glad you can now return to your usual aches and pains.

I go for the younger ones. I know they won’t be retiring soon.

I'm glad the injections helped. :) I had one in my foot for plantar fasciitis, and I also found relief. I hope Dr. Doogie will be able to find a long-term fix for you as well.

True, but they typically move on.

Our PCP is pretty young and came to this town because he's from here. He always runs late because he actually takes the time to sit and talk with you. I don't know what we'll do if he ever leaves, probably try to find one 75 miles away like our other specialist docs. I hate having to drive for decent care but I'll do it if I have to.

my Nurse Practitioner is the same. This is so unusual I make myself think about it whenever I consider relocation, because it's so important and hard to find. In two different states (Colorado and Nevada) I signed up for a concierge doctor to get someone who not only wants to but will spend the time needed with me.

LOL…in HS, MiniSue’s friend had to put up with how much he resembled Doogie Howser. Neither of them was dating anyone…so they went to Senior Prom together. Sarah went with Just a Friend Jonathan. Kelly went with Just a Friend Dan. Jessica, I think, had an actual date. And then off to their respective colleges they all went.

I few years later, Sarah and Doogie got married. And then he finished school and other preparation and moved to open his Ophthalmology Practice on the other side of the country. Soooo Doogie.
