... are so entrenched in their warped views of the world, there is simply no point in trying to get them to even consider that those fundamental views are (you pick the adjective(s)) wrong/unhelpful/self-serving/self-loathing/irrational/prejudiced/unscientific/stupid and ALWAYS against their own best interests.

Some people who are born into or chose to adopt such attitudes can be educated, but most of them cannot, or require far more effort than I'm willing to invest. When they repeatedly are led to the truth, but then repeatedly ignore it, and demonstrate that they are proud of their warped, rigid and inflexible thinking, and especially when they acknowledge that they recognize that it is wrong but refuse to change, I need to walk away.

Yes, I am intolerant of intolerance. Yes, I refuse to accept people as they are, who refuse to accept the truth as it is. Yes, I refuse to change my view of people who won't change their views. I can live with that inherent contradiction.

well, sure. humans are a mass of contradictions; I know I am.

I find I can "take it" - keep an open mind, wish the best for them even while watching them go down in flames, don't take it personally - so much more when I am in a good place myownself.

and when I'm not, I have to walk away much sooner. and different people, different subjects are going to be harder for some and not others.

you know what? I bumped into an anti-Semitic line in a post (elsewhere) recently in regards to Jon Stewart. I was outraged and said so but the thing that really bothered me is I don't know if I would have even noticed, had I read it say six months ago.

but I had been watching/reading something on TV or online, don't even recall, that was about the holocaust and so the remark hit me in the face like a wet fish.

but I don't know if it would have otherwise. "never forget" but we keep forgetting!

zero tolerance for bigotry, that's what.

now, ignorance, I don't know what to do about that. it always feels like people do it on purpose.
