Well, our travel plans til November have changed drastically. We were due to head to VT originally, but that was after a stay at Rhinebeck, NY, because of an appointment with a neurosurgeon for Charles. His ventricular shunt May have either failed or needs resetting. Then VT closed on us so we contacted Rhinebeck about staying the summer. They were fine with it.
Then yesterday about 4:30, Dutchess County, NY where Rhinebeck is located, closed all private seasonal campgrounds in spite of Albany deciding to leave them open for full times/seasonals. So we’ve spent the day scrambling.
Now, Charles will be going back to the surgeon in Toledo who did his original surgery in 2006. While Ohio has closed private campgrounds, they remain open to those who do not have a house to stay in for this. We found one out on the west side of Toledo/Maumee that has room for us. Once we got that and his doctor appointment nailed down, we went to finding places to stay overnight. One us south of Clinton, SC on l26 where we’ve stayed before. Next one will be in Heiskell, TN, but just one night. The third one, we will moochdock with Missy (my sister) and her new husband on their 10 acre farm near Lexington. We will be practicing social isolation most of the time but social distancing at Missy’s (and not go in her house). Moochdocking is a form of boondocking but with friends or family. It’s also helped that we’ve been in social isolation this month, except for grocery store runs.
Depending on how his appointment goes and how the restrictions on travel are handled, we will either stay near Toledo til the campground closes this fall and we head south or maybe head up into north Michigan.
Hopefully next year in Rhinebeck and I may even have a workkamper job there next summer. Talked to the owner about it.
