Enhanced Malabsorbtion and No Carbs

I was recently recommend the book 'The XX Brain' which is about cognitive health and women, specifically. I have not yet started it but I've heard nothing but good things about it. Much like the book, 'Estrogen Matters', I expect to be a bit irritated and blown away at how dismissive and not understanding of women the science field can be ;)

I’ve tried avocados, both pre and post op. I can not stand the taste or texture.
I love blueberries but even chewed, it’s like corn. It goes in much the same as it exits, so why?
I do eat watermelon in season. One apple or orange in season but I am also done losing. It’s not good newbie advice. After they get to goal, then as long as they account for the carbs, it’s fine.
Same on the avocados. I call them slime vegetables. Despise them. And avocado toast? Gag me.

I like fruit. Sad I can't eat it. Believe me I wish I was like that guy on OH who eats tons of it. Honestly, I like almost all sweet things.

I more of a veggie eater. But I love fruit too. But my system is not completely iron clad. I can’t eat them with abandon without consequences.

One of my favorite veggies (which is also a starch) is corn. Most of the summer, I get fresh ears and grill them. I typically have half an ear, up to about 2 years ago, I cut them in thirds, now it’s halves.

However, last week, I turned four ears into southern fried corn. https://southernbite.com/southern-fried-corn/

I remember now why I only do this about every two- three years. I easily overdose on it.

Fructolysis refers to the metabolism of fructose from dietary sources. Though the metabolism of glucose through glycolysis uses many of the same enzymes and intermediate structures as those in fructolysis, the two sugars have very different metabolic fates in human metabolism. Unlike glucose, which is directly metabolized widely in the body, fructose is almost entirely metabolized in the liver in humans, where it is directed toward replenishment of liver glycogen and triglyceride synthesis.[1] Under one percent of ingested fructose is directly converted to plasma triglyceride.[2] 29% - 54% of fructose is converted in liver to glucose, and about a quarter of fructose is converted to lactate. 15% - 18% is converted to glycogen.[3] Glucose and lactate are then used normally as energy to fuel cells all over the body.[2]

Fructose is a dietary monosaccharide present naturally in fruits and vegetables, either as free fructose or as part of the disaccharidesucrose, and as its polymer inulin. It is also present in the form of refined sugars including granulated sugars (white crystalline table sugar, brown sugar, confectioner's sugar, and turbinado sugar), refined crystalline fructose , as high fructose corn syrups as well as in honey. About 10% of the calories contained in the Western diet are supplied by fructose (approximately 55 g/day).[4]

Unlike glucose, fructose is not an insulinsecretagogue, and can in fact lower circulating insulin.[5] In addition to liver, fructose is metabolized in intestine, testis, kidney, skeletal muscle, fat tissue and brain,[6][7] but it is not transported into cells via insulin-sensitive pathways (insulin regulated transporters GLUT1 and GLUT4). Instead fructose is taken in by GLUT5. Fructose in muscles and adipose tissue is phosphorylated by hexokinase.

Still searching for gummy bears. No luck yet.

Our Labor Day cheat is tomorrow. Because Vegas will be full of tourists over the long weekend and the CDC says people should stay home, we are having our day early. We are starting out with dinner after midnight at Emerald Island Casino. It will be pretty empty/no crowds. Thursday morning we are going to Bagelmania to get takeout for breakfast/lunch. Dinner will be Burger King. And we are buying some Fat Boys and fake Bailey's for coffee.

Maybe this will be pretty reasonable. I guess it depends on how much we go off the rails at Bagelmania. I have never had a half and half pickle and I know I am getting one. Plus they have everything egg bagels!

Found the gummy bears. And they are getting very expensive. 5lbs cost $45. I think the last bag I bought was $25. But, these are the best tasting ever!

Bagelmania was the best. I know we will go there again. Pink Box was good too. I was a bit disappointed in the pickles. I think I was expecting them to be a lot more fresh tasting.

I got a new pair of Levi's. I have not had these in ages.

The heat is getting a bit more tolerable. Time to start working on the palm trees again. I did a lot of the lower trimming a couple weeks ago. Now I need to start the ladder work.

October! YAAAY! It is almost always the month I turn off the AC. The triple digit power bills are done for the year. My target date is Tuesday the 5th. Projected high is 83 possibility of storms too. I hope it rains all freaking day. We need it!
