I'm, uh, asking this for a friend. Yeah that's it. This friend has been on Atkins for decades so animal protein isn't the cause. The only thing different is the whey protein supplements. (And the DS surgery itself.) None of the "clinical strength" anti-perspirants/deodorants are solving the problem. It's not bad, but there used to be no odor what so ever.

My guess would be hormonal. While you are losing and especially right after surgery, your hormones are out of whack. I drank a protein shake every day for about 18 months without any weird odors.

Not only that, my nose was super sensitive early on and everything stunk. My breath, my wife's breath, everything.

I think it's some sort of skin bacteria that is "off" -- just like intestinal flora can get out of whack. I noticed it within days after the surgery but thought it had something to do with all the Unjury chicken broth. I am not even on solid food so no garlic or anything with seasoning.

My nose has always been dog like. I can smell things most cannot. I have not noticed any change in my usual super-human olfactory ability. This is a new smell post-surg, not something that I am just noticing.

It's not horrible -- people have sat close to me and noticed nothing. But it is weird. I'm sure the bacteria will normalize after a while.

Is there rapid weight loss happening? If so, I'd bet on ketosis. My breath, pits, and everything else smelled really different and bad when I was was losing most rapidly.

Have you tried changing the type of deoderant/antiperspirant you use? By that I mean spray to roll on or solid to spray, etc.

Yes. 3 times, all maximum strength 20-22%. I will try another. I hurt my back so haven't been exercising (i.e. no sweating), in fact I've been rather cold since surgery. It's just so strange.

sorry to tell you this, but if you are like many of us, you are going to freeze your patootie off this winter. I freaking hate winter now because I get so damn cold.
