Well, we made it to Reno yesterday, just before 5 PM. It was pretty damned hot, even with two fans running the whole way. We had drinks for ourselves in a cooler, because we didn't want to have to open the non-operating fridge/freezer. But we didn't want to stop either, so both of us were not drinking much. It didn't REALLY get hot until the last 100 miles or so, fortunately. But holy CRAP it was windy - Charles was fighting an epic battle much of the way to keep the coach on the road. We only stopped twice for pee breaks. He was an exhausted mess by the time we got here - a mass of cramped muscles and tension.

None of the cats were happy with the trip - I was getting concerned, because although there was water available to them the whole time, I never saw any of them drink or pee for the eight hours it took. By the very end, Onyx was panting, and I had a time of it trying to get any of them to drink anything until after the RV was plugged in for a while and cooled off a bit. Although they all behaved "normally" for them during the trip, it was a pretty rough one, because of the length of it, the heat, and the bouncing and jouncing of the rig due to wind and bad roads.

Today we are doing nothing, and just resting and catching up on TV until 5 PM, when we go out to a really nice restaurant with our friends who live here. Anna is my oldest longest-term friend - we've known each other since we were 10 years old (she is 17 days older than I, which I have reminded her of every birthday for the last 50+ years). She will be retiring in August, shortly after she turns 63, after 30 years of nursing for the VA, and then she and her husband Orv will both be retired.

She and Orv were an initial inspiration for our RVing, when they bought one similar to ours about 4 years ago - unfortunately, shortly after that, Orv suddenly started losing his vision (late onset Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON)) and is now almost completely blind, and Anna was afraid to drive their coach so they sold it. But after Anna retires, they are going to buy something smaller that she can manage, and we might go on some adventures together!

Tomorrow, we will head back to CA - as we did in September last year, I will drive the Jeep separately the 40 miles from Reno to the top of Donner Pass, where we will hook up for the long downhill ride home. I am hoping for not too much traffic around Sacramento, since it will be Sunday of a three day weekend - when we left two weeks ago, the westbound traffic into Sacto was HORRIBLE. We need to get back to sea level, pronto!

Wow, quite the adventure. High highs (amazing sights and friends) and low lows (heat and electrical issues)! Doing nothing sounds like an excellent plan - I'm going to do the same here in your honor. ;) Enjoy the day and safe travels back to CA.
