Oh, crap. Haircuts.

For those of you with gentle natural curls: straight hair is a challenge to cut. Mistakes hide better in and under curls.

The part of MY anatomy that reveals my Native American heritage is my hair. Which is generally carved into a “pixie cut” about every four weeks. It’s been two weeks.

This will not turn out well.

We got hubby a haircut kit...we can handle his. Mine is suppose to be shoulder length. It’s now way longer due to 1) waiting til payday when I could afford an Aveda salon and 2) having them cancel 2 weeks ago. So I’m about 6 weeks beyond what is doable. I’m hoping by mid Nay, I can finally get back into a salon.

I’m just glad I don’t color my hair. I’d be nuts by now.
My hair is a dark purple and I'm looking forward to having purple tips as it grows out. With the tornado, DH's surgery, wretched step-daughter's request for money, and now stay at home orders, I do bring mirth and laughter to my necessary grocery trips. BTW, friends don't let friends use Splat hair dye.

I cut my own hair too because it was getting so thin and scraggly from the surgery and alopecia and I used my husband's hair clippers! So it's short SHORT SHORT and the ends are neon purple and it's time to bleach my hair again and redo it with some other color like regular purple or teal. I just don't seem to have much alone time to do this kind of stuff.

All you purple hair people! Copycats!

I started that around 1986. I was a year past 40. I was greying, with a swath of grey starting at the right temple. My friend (who recently died :( ) was licensed and did hair, at home, for free, for family, friends and neighbors. There was a new product on the market...a kind of gel thing that added “tones” of whatever color. We decided that the “merlot” shade would make my dark hair look like it had deep undertones of something red-ish or auburn-ish. It did.

A few days later, MiniSue called from school for me to bring some crucial thing to her. She was in math class, with a substitute teacher using earphones to listen to his radio. I walked in, headed to his desk to tell him why I was there and heard a bit of an uproar behind me. I asked if I could address the class. He didn’t care.

I turned to the class and said, “Most of you know that I’m [MiniSue’s] mother. I need to drop this off for her. Yes, my hair is pink, but it was a mistake and it wasn’t her fault.” Some boy yelled out, “Pink? Lady, your hair is purple!”

We had neglected to factor in how that gel stuff would look on grey hair.

BTW...it was VERY permanent color. Did not wash out, no matter what we tried.

I've been warned to be careful lest someone try to hide Easter eggs in my hair. I also sent a little girl into fits of laughter. This time is much better than a misfortunate self dye job I did to myself while in the Air Force. It matched my olive drab fatigues perfectly. When this grows out, I shall go back to my L'Oréal muted pastels.
