I had my interview, finally, for the legal asst. job.. After a few long chats with the lawyer- whom I REALLY like.. she contacted me back well over a month past the first communication. She's been moving slowly and deliberately due to being burned by a prev. hire..
Long story short, I made an impression on her that stuck, and after over 150 applicants, some with many years of paralegal exp.. she's got it down to me and one other. She sent out a behavioral/personality assessment to a dozen or so, and I was the first and only one to hit it on the head for what she is looking for.. Considering it would be me and her, I can understand her desire for a similarly motivated and similarly thinking person to be there in office while she is in court or meeting families. Plus the need to be able to communicate effectively and have an innate understanding of how one another works would be essential for two women to work closely without conflict.
The interview- same as our phone conversations was easy and informal. I hope this pans out. She is looking to either hire an experienced paralegal, or train me into one. I impressed upon her I am a clean slate, she can train me to her liking, and that you can train and educate someone (that has the brains to absorb the info, which I do) but you can't change someone's basic personality.. so I hope this other person isn't the best of fits, and I get the nod with the understanding I've got some learnin' to do. I won't be heartbroken if I don't get it- but will be bummed. She's a good person at heart, and her specialty- elder law, hits home for me.
