it's been so long since I've been to a fair I was living in Minnesota, where I usually made it to the State Fair.

here is a list of new foods at this year's fair and for some reason I thought of y'all.

A roasted turkey leg wrapped in a layer of bacon! but, seriously, look at the link, see what you think. I wouldn't mind trying the waffle ice cream sandwich. :p

as a kid I liked The Barns (fancy chickens!) and the rides, as an adult The Barns (fancy chickens!) and The Fine Art Pavilion.

and the food.

what fair do you go to and what do you like best?

Okay, here is my order, snow ribbons, lobster roll, rustic stuffed scone, PB & J French toast, iron range pirogues, deep fried lobster on a stick, Chocolate Dessert Salami, Caramel Apple Ice Cream, and Deep-Fried Buckeyes.

Could I have them right away, please!

I've never been to a state fair! And it's been a long time since I've been to a county fair, I don't know what most of the things that NA mentioned are!

from the link I posted, foods that are new this year at The Fair (the Minnesota State Fair)

I don't know what a buckeye is, but I'd try it since it's deep fried. :geek:

well, you CAN but I was thinking maybe we go on the rides first.

another favorite thing of mine, looking at the chickens - and in the other animal barns.

so it's not ALL about the food...

I think a buckeye is a peanut butter sphere enrobed in chocolate, @JackieOnLine -- and then in this case they deep fry it.
Yes, a Buckeye is a sphere of peanut butter cream dipped in chocolate. There is a little bit of the cream that is left exposed to resemble a buckeye nut. I was born in Ohio, we know all about buckeyes.

Oh, now that I think about it, the animals were my favorite part if the fairs I've been to (probably since my parents didn't let us have any fair food except maybe a shared funnel cake, lol) I have a disturbingly strong love for piglets, disturbing only because I ADORE them, but yet I love pork so much! I have a very distinct memory of seeing a sow nursing her piglets and one teeny tiny one that couldn't get in to eat because the others were crowding him out, my dad said "that's the runt, he'll probably die soon because he won't get enough nourishment, it's nature's way of weeding out the weak". I was traumatized by that little speech and determined to love on all the little runts in my path ever since!

@brooklyngirl I was loving your story because I am a fan of runts, underdogs, etc. However, not a fan of your dad, lol. I think he traumatized me too. I don't know how I came to know about runts but actually hearing (reading) it causes me to tear up.

@JackieOnLine Just a truckload of the deep fried buckeyes. I have only went to the WI state fair, while I lived there. Living in IN 4-H county fairs are a big deal as are church socials. But the first full week of October every year for 90 years we have a street festival, second only to Mardi Gras per Paul Harvey, but I don't think that has ever been shown to be true. It is four blocks lined on both side of the street of nothing but food, most deep fried some way. The longest line is always at the booth that serves brain sandwiches.

OK, why? the MN is the only one I've been to so I don't know how different they all are.
It's pretty big because it's in an agricultural area but it has a small town feel. Almost all the food is home made with all local stuff. None of those commercial vendors who travel with fairs. The food is to die for! We used to drive up from Salt Lake just for the fair.

cool, I'd love to see it sometime. I drove through a bit of Idaho once but I'd like to see more, for sure.
