So Phil saw his shadow. So we get six more weeks of winter. I’m so sorry for those wanting an early spring. I’m not ready for bugs!

I like the progress you are making.I think the groundhog predictions only work for certain parts of the country, sort of like how el nino or la nina is going to differ depending on where you are. So find a local groundhog, I guess.
I still haven't been to the gym (really likely to give up the membership) but going on my pants I'm doing about the same.
the really good news is I am making progress controlling my blood pressure with hypnosis, less salt, being strict with caffeine and so forth. go, me! the numbers on the scale (or on the tag of your pants) are only tools, after all, and the real goals are HEALTH and FUNCTION.

I’m 9 days post op from getting my tubes removed (PHEW what a relief) so I’m taking a break from working out. Hoping to ease back in starting tomorrow, but will be listening closely to my body!
I just had my 1-year post op follow up with my DS surgeon, he said labs look great and said I was right where I should be as far as %EWL (I was at ~77% EWL). I can’t believe i was so worried about my progress a month ago. I DID ask about getting excess skin removal sometime this year and he said to wait until 2 years post op. I’ve got a consultation with a plastic surgeon in Oct (one who is booked nearly a year in advanced, as I called months ago to get on the books!), so I’m looking forward to that. It’s definitely motivating to try and get as much muscle tone possible by the two year mark so my results are the best possible.
In the meantime, I’m focusing on healing my abdomen from my salpingectomy surgery, easing back into activity, and drinking more water.
Yeah I actually didn’t end up going to the gym this morning LOL. Giving myself some more time to heal before ramping back up my activity.Remember to heal first from surgery, any surgery!
As far as labs, always get a copy so you can track trends, that way if something is trending down or up, you will see it. Also, doctors are trained to look at the edges of labs, too high or too low. We look at labs differently. Protein, which is part of the CMP, needs to be a 7 or better cause we tank quickly. Ferritin needs to be triple digits and isn’t always tested as part of the iron panel but should be. PTH needs to be on the low end and many do not test that. But it’s a key test in keeping your bones healthy. Your D needs to be between 80-100 regardless of what the lab says. That’s another key point in keeping your bones healthy.
There is a complete lab slip we suggest in the Vitamins & Labs board listed as Generic DS lab order. The vitamin D is discussed as a webinar by Dr. Keshishian. PTH is discussed under the Parathyroid thread.
In other words, we’ve covered much of what will help you learn to keep yourself healthy in spite of your surgeon
All that sounds like a good plan. Keep an eye on the ferritin, it can slip quickly. Also don’t be adverse to adding a protein shake or water.Yeah I actually didn’t end up going to the gym this morning LOL. Giving myself some more time to heal before ramping back up my activity.
Went back to check my labs again based on your recommendations. I still need to enter these new values into my spreadsheet, where I do track trends (I’m a data analyst, so this is in my BLOOD haha)…
Protein (target 7+): 6.6 - Looks like I need to bump up my protein intake a bit. Hoping I can tackle this with drinking some high protein milk throughout the day to make it easier for me to hit my target. Six months ago it was 6.5, so minor improvement here.
Ferritin (target 100+): 69 - Again, on the low side here. I have always had issues with low iron, but I think maybe adding a few extra doses throughout the week of the heme iron I take would be beneficial. Six months ago it was 100. However, all my other iron-related labs improved from 6 months ago except ferritin. Hmm, bit of a head scratcher.
PTH (target low?): 15 - I think this is on the low end? The range on my Labcorp report says 15-65, so I think I’m good here.
Vit D (target 80-100): 82 - This was previously 115 6 months ago, surgeon suggested I cut back to taking my vitamin D every other day. Now I’m thinking a happy medium is best, maybe 5 days a week.
