I would be starting early.

Next time, I will, too. Or not.

BUT, I asked my doctor why it seemed that they were trying to time it for the last possible minute. In fact, they had even LATER start times for those whose procedure time was 10:00 a.m. or later.

So, if I have this right, the "cutting it close" is because the laxatives and all the clear liquids--and they recommend many, many beverages, both sweet and salty-- "wash away" the mucosal stuff making seeing everything and taking photos easier, providing a better chance for accurate diagnoses.

Knowing that I need eleven hours to get started, I think I'd ask for a later procedure time...maybe noon?...and then work backwards on the timing. Like, start at 9:00 p.m., second dose at 11:00 p.m., sleep and then wake up to a morning of pooping before the trip to the hospital.

Glad it is over with and I think a pretty positive report so far?

I hate, hate, hate bowel prep. The best one for me was the last one where I was instructed to mix a bottle of Miralax with 64 oz of my preferred liquid which I chose Orange gatorade and drink that in an hour around noon the day before. Then later to take 2 dulcolax and drink more liquid. It was very easy to drink and didn't taste like the horrible Suprep stuff which tastes like a horrible cough syrup to me (I would do the golytely over that if my only two options). It was effective.

The DS geek in me was happy to read normal pylorus - so great to have one in use given the alternatives! Also glad the results were mostly favorable. Bowel prep is horrible. I'm in the frequent flyer club for polyp farming. I wish there were a way they could just include a clean-out via strong irrigation during the procedure once the happy drugs are doing their good work. Best wishes that the insight you need comes swiftly.

I think it works more powerfully on our shorter guts. It did take some time after the first dose to work, but when it started, oh my. I found I was repeatedly awakened by the need to poop, and slept very fitfully. I wish I could have figured out a sleeping position on the john, with a pillow on the sink. It was that bad. Make sure you have zinc oxide (diaper cream) because the stuff burns, and a towel on the bed under your butt for leakage.

It makes sense to start earlier in the day, but I don't think you'll sleep better, since the cleansing took about 15 hours after the first dose. There are warnings about people being sent home because they didn't prepare properly because some residue was left, so they had to do it again.

Have someone bring food to the place for afterwards. My genius husband thought they'd call him when I was done, even though I told him to pick me up at 10 am. All I got was a package of crackers.
Whatever you do, don't drink coffee after your procedure, at all, that day. You will have a HUGE mess!!

Have you ever tried the pills instead? Sutab? Before wt-loss surgery, my 1st colonoscopy I got to use the pills instead of the nasty liquid, it was a breeze. I have to do another Friday, and I have the pills again and am wondering how it will go? 12 pills tomorrow, not all at once, spaced our, 2 st a time. Then wee hrs Fri, 12 more.
Anyone done it after bariatric surg.?

I had the pills for my first. This was pre WLS. Then the liquids for my second, bc there was some concern re: the pills being hard on the kidneys. I don’t recall the name of the pills, unfortunately.

I was supposed to have my 10 year colonoscopy this month. That got canceled due to my heart attack since I can’t stop my blood thinners. Anyway, I’m gonna try to get the Cologuard to hold me over. Better than nothing at all. I can have my colonoscopy next year. And it will be my last one.

Colonoscopies are not recommended after you turn 75. Too dangerous in the elderly.
