LOL, the one I MADE. Actually two of them. One has all the recipes I got from my Mother, the other is a compilation of recipes from a group of women friends from back in 1997.
MOST of my recipes are now online not in books but I still own cookbooks...a whole collection of about 15 boxes!

I second the ole Fanny Farmer...can't remember what edition mine is - it's from the early 60's. It contains all the foods my dear mother made throughout my childhood. I buy them whenever I see them at estate sales, star my favourites and give them as gifts to my nieces and nephews when they leave home. They love them! (and nobody makes some *******ized version of food when we have family gatherings!) ;)

America's Test Kitchen! I love them and the fact that they test many versions of the recipes, then have tasters test them out to decide on the best versions before they make in onto the show or into the books. I have made soooo many of their recipes, and so has my mom, and we've never been disappointed in anything. I always give the main book, the big red binder one, as part of engagement or shower gifts.

How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman is an all-time favourite and an awesome reference guide, as well. It's a classic cookbook and for good reason.

Against all Grain by Danielle Walker was great for Paleo alternatives.

Paleo Cooking from Elana's Pantry is another favourite and so is Nom Nom Paleo.

For Indian food, I love Vij's cookbooks. Their restaurant in BC serves some of the best Indian food I've ever had.

I know my South Asian cuisine, and these recipes are accessible, delicious and don't take a lot of prep. Madhur Jaffrey is another one of my favourites. Her books on Indian cooking are a treasure.

For Chinese and Malaysian cooking, I've really enjoyed the Rasa Malaysia blogger Betty Yew's books.

For a beginner Chinese cooking enthusiast such as myself, this book was great.

Julia Child's books are also a favourite. I've been learning how to incorporate more meat into my diet all of last year, and I've learnt a lot. Bobby Flay's Barbecue and Grilling centered Cookbooks have also been a help on my journey to eating a higher meat protein diet.
