Sounds like you had a good time in spite of Mother Nature. Did you take photos?
Ooooh, I missed the initial post (gone for too long from here). Your trip sounds amazing despite the balloons not working out. My only experience traveling to watch balloons launch (here in WA, and just watching, not riding) they were grounded due to windy weather as well. Glad you had a fun time.Over-all I'm glad I went on the trip, but New Mexico had very atypical weather (clouds! rain! cold!) and three of the days of Balloon Fiesta they couldn't launch, including the day we had tickets. also didn't camp because of weather. so that was very sad.
But saw some sites in the damp (the zoo in Albq) and some in partly sunny including the stunning countryside around ghost ranch where Georgia O'Keefe lived and painted. Hiked at Lake Abiquiu, soaked in hot springs in the Jemez mountains and heard an elk bugle at El Malpais National Monument. got caught hiking in a thunderstorm including hail which was more than a little scary and we got soaked and very cold as we were completely unprepared. live and learn!
and it turns out I love green chillies - took home extra from restaurants and put them in scrambled eggs and on salads.
so, now back to my regularly scheduled life. sigh.
I love Georgia’s “dirty paintings!”thank you for making those the right size and posting them, Liz.
they are all near where Georgia O'Keeffe lived/painted Ghost Ranch and that view in the last one, the flat-topped mountain behind Lake Abiquiu, is something she painted many times.
we took some hikes and generally found the whole area so beautiful. and that day had the most sun which we appreciated.
???“dirty paintings!”
too long!!!!!!(gone for too long from here)
???
if you mean flowers that look like female genitals? I read she had no such intent.
in looking for what you meant I googled her name and controversy and found she had a partner 58 years younger. good for her!
anyway, that part of New Mexico is just stunning.
