We're running away from home again, back down to Marina CA (about 8 miles north of Monterey). Weather is going to be meh, but we just wanna go, and - we can.

THU May 7 64°/50° Partly Cloudy/Wind 20% WSW 20 mph
FRI May 8 67°/52° Mostly Sunny 10% SW 13 mph
SAT May 9 64°/51° Partly Cloudy 10% WSW 12 mph
SUN May 10 64°/51° Partly Cloudy 10% WSW 12 mph
MON May 11 63°/49° Mostly Sunny 10% W 15 mph

We have stayed at this RV park a couple of times before, including over Xmas. It's very nice, relatively peaceful - considering it is right next to 101. But it is also next to the sand dunes of Monterey Bay:

The RV park is just inside the Marina Dunes (and thus protected from the direct force of the winds off of Monterey Bay), and there are four sandy hiking paths to the top of the dunes and then down to the beach - you can see them in this pic. The WorldMark resort is where there is a great Hawaiian steak and seafood restaurant and fire pits on the dunes (they were built for the resort guests, but they have to let the public use them too). There is a Wally World about a mile away for provisions. The only significant downside of the park is that Highway 101 is right next to the park - but we don't hear it inside our RV.

We are stocking the RV with steak, fresh veggies and fruits, all kinds of cheese and snack foods - will head out in the morning with our two RV kitties for four days. And hope we have good enough internet to stream House of Cards if it rains :)
:transport013:

Oh, and the kids are going to clean the house while we're gone. What's not to like?

have a great time!! hope the adult children actually clean and - in a spontaneous gesture of gratitude - go the extra mile in some way.

wow, actual rain? we had a lot of clouds - still do - but maybe three drops of actual moisture, sadly.

It rained most of the late afternoon and evening - no biggie - we were tucked away in the RV. Spent some frustrating time with the internet set-up - wanted to Chromecast Netflix to the TV but it WOULD.NOT.WORK. Spend over an hour on the phone with TengoInternet (provider for the campground) with a guy who swore he'd gotten it to work for someone else - no go. Will go shopping for a hardwired cord, but I think Tengo is still going to throttle down our access if we try to stream. First world RV problems.

Mimi in her favorite hidey-hole in the RV - snug as a bug in a rug:

My happy place - at the beach.

And we solved the Netflix issue. Charles has an unlimited data account on his phone, so we bought a dohicky to attach the phone directly to one of the HDMI ports on the TV - BINGO! Don't need to worry about local WiFi (so long as HIS phone gets the signal).

A working vacation- I'm preparing a response to the Patent Office, and Charles is replacing the interior incandescent lights in the RV (old, brittle and yellow) with LEDs.

The lights make a BIG difference in the feel inside our 2005 rig - brighter, awarm white light, rather than yellow, dim and tired looking. And I can do my makeup in the bathroom! 8 down, 4 to go (including getting rid of the dated lamp fixture over the dining room table). Nice, clean, updated look! (Yeah, negated to some extent by the tube TV in the front, but - it still works, so replacing it is lower on the priority list - we have a modern flat screen/DVD player in the bedroom.)

Went for another hike over the dunes and long walk on the beach. This sign is a little disconcerting

We also saw a dead seal on the beach - I reported it to the Marine Mammal Center at UC Monterey :-( :

I knew Charles would figure it out! He's got that "Tech-Savy Handyman" gene like me ;)....Thats the way to go! INDEPENDANCE!, not dependance....GREAT Picture BTW!!! And, OMG, that BEAUTIFULL Beach in the background! WOW!

We extended our stay an extra day because we are having a good time. I had to move my squishogram appointment for tomorrow early afternoon. But we have to be back tomorrow evening in time for our rumba class! (Doesn't Charles look thrilled?) Surprisingly, we are much better at the rumba - after one class - than the foxtrot. Hey, it's good exercise and it's good for balance as well.
