I want to be just like her, esp when I get to her age. She is 75 years old and as healthy as many 20 year old kids!

ALL she takes are vitamins...NO prescription medication at all. But her vitamin list rivals a DS'er!

And while she is a touch overweight, she only gained 10 lbs in the last 10 years. Up until then she held it well below 140. She's now at 150-152 at 5'4"

I know this because I was her support person for her cataract surgery on Thursday morning.

I'm in total ENVY of her health!
 
I think vitamins and a healthy diet are 90% of the battle (leaving out genetics). I am currently reading about amino acids and how they help stabilize moods. The guy that wrote the book also advocates multis, fat solubles, calcium and mag. I haven't finished the book yet but he doesn't sound like a snake oil salesman and operates a mental health type clinic in Mill Valley (right outside San Fran). He is selling nothing (but the book) and is not brand specific.
 
@SHales, she has a vitamin/mineral reference book for medical issues...and I don't know what it's called. It's how she dropped her blood pressure from borderline being an issue to back to super normal. Her BP on Thursday after her surgery was 120/65.
 
Yeah. My MIL is 88 and just now is starting to slow down. She has 12 children, no twins, my husband is #8. Super organized, she kept a filing cabinet in their bedroom and filed each kids' things in there, like a secretary. Could lay her hands on birth certificates, licenses, college applications, Social Security information, immunizations, etc. My own mother died at 81, and wasn't verbal the last year of her life from strokes. My father lived til 88, sharp as a tack up til the end. None of them took any medication or vitamins, except my father, who took heart meds towards the end. My MIL won't take any meds, no matter what. Completely and totally noncompliant patient. Maddening.

that is so cool.

seems rare to me, too, but since I see nursing home people so much I suspect they are tilted towards the most Rx side.
 
OOPS! It was not a "guy". The book is, "The Mood Cure" by Julia Ross, M.A. I have not finished it yet. Busy week. If you are interested you might be able to find it on one of the online used book stores or a library. This copy belongs to a friend and if I decide to use it, I will buy a copy.
 
I don't know if I want to live longer but I would like to spend the rest of my time healthy. I am 150% healthier since my DS and I attribute part of that to the vitamin and mineral regimen. :)
 
This book was recommended by a friend. Her dad is bi-polar (not sure what type). He is an owner/operator of a local organic farm. Anyway, she said his Prozac quit working and he was a total dick to everyone. Somehow, he came across this book and since following the protocols, he is like a new person. He is on zero meds. **shrug** anecdotal, I know, but I thought I would read it and see what I thought.

it might even be at my library - I see it's $10 on amazon.

ETA: it's at my library - doesn't get better than that!
