I am new to this thread. I had vsg done in 2012 and converted to sadi-s in 2021. I have been dealing with Sibo for months. Antibiotics have failed me and I am working with a dietician to try and get some insight on lowfod map, and try to gain 5 lbs in the next 2 weeks. I have all the Sibo symptoms : bloating diarrhea, steatorrhea, low b12 vit deficiency anemia, feeling full early on, heartburn. The worst part, is the fecal/ sewer breath that is the foul- smelling. I can set off a room just breathing through my nose. I've been assaulted over it.
My new Bariatric doc seems to think afferent limb syndrome. I am finishing up cipro and metronidazole this week in hopes it works. If not then possibly getting dobhoff tube down my afferent limb to shoot antibiotics directly for 3 weeks I am beyond scared I made the wrong decision getting the sadi-s. When I went in asking for conversion to a bypass.

I can't smell it myself, it's others around me that can smell it. If I could smell it, I would know when it is happening. It's the fermenting of food either not being digested or the hydrogen bacteria being expelled because of sibo when i breath. I was assaulted on an airplane by 2 separate women spraying me with perfume, even wearing a face mask. It sporadically occurs. I work in a surgery center and my coworkers complain but it is not predictable when it will occur. I have tried devrom, fasting, cutting all carbs activated charcoal and just plain white rice like you do before doing a lactalose breath test. I may not have a choice, but an open surgery with a complete gastrectomy and with a modified rny of my intestines because of afferent loop sydrome. It is not documented in my post op report from Dr. Medlin how long he measured my channels. So my current bariatric doc feels he would need to go in and measure precisely, hence an open surgery. I am also consulting with Dr. Robert Rutledge, and Dr. Graf.

I'm sorry to hear of this, particularly the assault, and hope the cipro works for you. I'm not a big fan of chewing gum, but maybe mints or a breath spray like binaca but wondering if they might help mask the scent until the SIBO is resolved. Avoid any that have sugar alcohols though!
