After 2 years of quarterly injections of Boniva to stop bone loss, I embarked on a year of daily injections of Forteo. Because I had my initial and follow-up DEXA with different providers, I was unsure of the meaning of the follow up scan. Its report was nine pages compared to single page when my baseline was done. Today, I learned that I have made an improvement in my spine. Doc said based on these results, it is likely that my hips will show some improvement after another year on the Forteo. I danced all the way from his office to the car. Well, as best as I can dance with a bum knee. In my head I was turning cartwheels.

That's great! Keep up the Forteo! Do you inject it yourself?

Yes. It's injected with an epi-pen. The needles are very tiny and thin. I hit a surface vein once and bled a bit, but only that once. I had some practice injecting blood thinners after my knee was replaced. The Boniva was obtained from pharmacy and a nurse at my PCP's office injected it for me as it was more complicated to inject than the Forteo.
