Okay, we have been trying to figure out the best way to do the trip planned this summer. Because of the number of dogs involved, most hotels are out of the question. We have three now...and most have a two dog limit.

So we considered renting an RV. We went down today to look into it since we had kinda priced it out online and knew that to rent one for that long but ESP that many miles, we were gonna drop 5K on this vacation easily.

Anyway, the guy priced it out...we didn't commit to it tho cause I wanted to be sure of our options. So we went down to another RV dealer near us and started asking questions.

Due to the towing limit on our biggest vehicle (3500 lbs), we knew it would either be a VERY small travel trailer or a pop up.

We ended up buying a used popup. It's a 2010 Forest River, VERY nicely maintained. About 10 ft long packed up to tow. It does have more room when unpacked. And for this trip, we aren't replacing anything altho we will probably add our air mattress on top of the mattress that is there.

Now, this one does have A/C which for much of our trip will be needed but even if we just use it this ONE time, we would have spend the same amount anyway. And with it being ours, no one can tell us the dogs can't go.

But we figure even if this is the ONLY time we use it, it will have paid for itself. And dh finally has an excuse to add the tow hitch he's been wanting on his SUV.

I still have a small motor home that I purchased so just one dog could come anywhere with us, and had AC put in both the cab in front, and in the ceiling in the rear, and several different power sources built in so it could power the AC no matter what. Then I had lowering stairs put on so as the dogs hips got stiff, he could get in and out easily. We don't even have the dog now.

So to me, it makes perfect sense to get an RV so 3 of your fuzzy family members can vacation with you. You even have a tow vehicle and hitch ready to go. It's meant to be.

Seriously, you will have a lot of fun RVing, and it's a relief to not feel you have left your pets in dog jail. There were so many parks and hikes and beaches that would not have been as much fun if Bear hadn't been traveling with us, and I think you will feel the same when your pups are romping in new places with you. Summer is just beginning - enjoy!

This one didn't come with a potty...but last night (do my best thinking then), I realized there had to be a solution! Yeap, found several on Amazon.

Already had refrigeration covered. We have had a plug in Coleman cooler for many years now...picked it up back in 2005? It has the 12 volt plug but also has a standard plug adapter...so while driving, it will be plugged in the 12 volt in the SUV, while stopped and hooked up, it will be plugged into an outlet. As long as we can keep yogurt/creamer/milk/butter handy, we will be fine.

We are gonna take the toaster oven out of the house and use it. It bakes/broils as well as toasts...and the camper comes with a baby microwave (need to test it cause I do have a countertop one downstairs I can use). Bought a really nice camping grill at Costco yesterday. And they are topping off the propane tank for the camper.

@bearmom, I don't like leaving any of my critters behind but I know that my felines do not travel well AT ALL. Our canines, however, are GOOD travelers. We've taught them to stay in the back seat.

Now to start making reservations at various campgrounds along the way. We did pick up a KOA book of all of theirs. I downloaded the Good Sam app from the Apple store...
Very cool, I want one!
Maybe you can borrow this one???? Just ask! (As long as we aren't already using it, LOL)

nice one, Liz, and not as expensive as I would have thought.

up until really recently I would have assumed no RV for me....but now I am thinking, huh, traveling with the three dogs...and this area, southern Oregon? tons of trailer parks and trailer living and RV dealers and service.

so, now I'm thinking about it. see what you did?! *fist*

DH and I have always said if we ever won the lottery we would buy and RV and spend at least the 1st year traveling the states. Y'all are making me very jealous right now.

Oh, that's dangerous! ;)

Hey, if y'all like it, you may end up with one. I will say that the people at Sonny's RV (it's just after the BMW plant and before you get to GSP airport) were very nice and helpful and the prices are great. This time of year, they slashed the prices to get the 2014's off the lot and bring in the 2015 models. We saw a Thor Class A 2014 brand new, originally priced at 101,000+ and they had it marked at 76K.

Jackie, We saw several used popups out there...ranging from just over 2K to the 5K mark...depending on condition and year. Not a bad price. However, you do have to tag it, pay taxes, etc but that isn't all that terrible here.

That potty looks pretty nice (rv ones are always weird). I have looked at some that incinerate the whole shebang, but are soo expensive, and I assume need more time to burn things up than I'd give it when the morning poops may be 20 minutes apart.

One thing that is always good whether you have a large or tiny tank for holding waste for any length of time, is enzymes. They sell them at RV supply places, and while I think they are to break things down quickly for easier emptying of tanks, I have noticed they cut the smell. A lot.
