I've never seen it but it sounds interesting. show rave here.

It illustrates how much of gender is performative, and how much looking good essentially comes down to time, effort, and money.

I love this show! I especially like when they show the queens beating their faces. A lot of the challenges are truly ridiculous, but I love the creativity the queens show in meeting them. I am eagerly awaiting the next season.

ETA I just read the rave in your post Jackie, and it could have been written by me. Maybe not as articulately, yet I agree with all of the points

When the make up applied to a person's face is so powerful and amazing that it makes them look truly stunning.

From the Urban Dictionary, I learned a whole slew of new terms by watching RPDR.

You'll see them start out as they are by birth, then turn into incredible glamazons.

I've watched it few times, but it's pretty intense and I don't really have an interest in a lot of it (no makeup, bare feet, clothes from the rag shops). However, my stepson is a gay hat designer whom I love dearly, so I try to establish some common references and he likes RuP. He just up and moved to Paris for at least 5 years!

I don't wear make-up. My hair is silver. I only wear shoes when I have to. I wear jeans and tees. And I love hats. For me it's like watching some of the food shows. These drag queens take a bunch of diverse materials and create clothes. That fascinates me as much as someone on Chopped who can take marshmallows, chicken livers, and arugula and make it look edible. Yet watching drag queens, admittedly, is not mainstream.

Maybe it's just that I know I couldn't rise to the challenge and prefer to run away.

so, what I'm hearing is that I could look good if I just put some time and effort into it. and money. but who wants to?

I would just be considered a woman - it's not like it's an art form for us!
