because I have just found out my library provides free access. there are a lot of things you can learn but I don't understand enough to know what many of these things are. :(

learning paths

I wonder which of these are appropriate for a rank beginner?

um, what? the link was specifically things you could (supposedly) learn online. for free, if your library (like mine) subscribes to it.

:dontknow:

Well, then, those might be good for entertainment...or to explore what you MIGHT want to study. But first, figure out what you like and dislike about jobs you've had.

If you generally like "the mission" of your current job, but might be better further up the food chain, consider how to get from here to there and find classes that will help you get there.

As an example, maybe an LVN would rather be an RN. And there ARE 3-semester LVN to RN programs. And, some of the classes required for an AA/AS in anything are basic educational classes, like English 1A, Nutrition, Intermediate Algebra and such. As long as you take those classes at an ACCREDITED institution...even online, maybe even free or very cheap...they are generally transferable. (The degree-granting institution--the one to which those credits will be transferred--probably has a "units in residence" requirement. That would be the minimum number of units you have to take at THEIR school, for them to want to award you their diploma. So sometimes, not all classes at other accredited schools will count. Check that out first.)

But maybe you've had it with people and would rather be a vet tech. Not great pay, but if you LOVE working w/critters...

Or maybe you've had it with things that breathe. So, IT?

In the olden days...I remember taking this test in 1962-63, there was something called the Kuder (sp) Preference Test. Pre-fill-in-the-circles-with-a#2-pencil days...we had a pin and poked holes in our answers! It said I should be an optometrist or pilot? Back then, there weren't many women in those fields and my vision wasn't good enough for the pilot gig, so I just went to work at "the phone company." LOL , but I'm sure there are better tests now.

when it comes to IT about all I know about it is that it stands for Information Technology. what it actually looks like and how you get there - no idea. How hard is it to learn and, more importantly, what KIND of hard? math hard? memory hard?

which was the point of my post - what are these classes they are talking about (at the link) - do they work?

and it's not that I don't want to be around people, in fact I still think I could/would be an excellent caregiver.

well. I am too long-term stressed to make good decisions. (which is one reason I keep making bad decisions.) I mean, when was the last time I had a job I felt like I could do, a place to live that worked, and health insurance? how many years? not sure. :(

anyway, my original post was very long term* and I need to be short term for a bit. I have applied to work at a Home Health company here, as an OT assistant and that will happen as soon as they do a background check and some other details so Oct 9 is the possible start date. no, not full time and no benefits for reasons I'll spare you.

I did sign up with a doctor who doesn't take insurance, just a flat rate $285 every three months. I had labs done but haven't looked up what they mean yet. (he has seen them and didn't message me so he must think there is nothing alarming) and I'm looking for a new vet for my old dogs, both of which have ongoing issues. I keep reading Craig's List and it's nice to know I can make money "texting" anytime I want. yes, Personal Texter is a gig but I suspect it has to be X rated. :cautious:

*long term a person could learn almost ANYthing online for free, did y'all know that? tons and tons of colleges have all their classes online for free. there is no excuse for not learning something! my library has Rosette Stone so I have been learning Latin American Spanish, albeit slowly. I won't be able to spell it but I'm getting better at understanding it spoken.

ps - I don't remember taking the Kuder test specifically but I do remember a test that said I would enjoy being a migrant farm worker. I think based on my saying I like being outdoors. I'm not kidding, that was one result! along with other things, but that's the one I remember.
