Depends on how close to my backyard! And how high ABOVE said river!

Actually, I don't really notice trains even in the middle of the night unless they are RIGHT next door!
It wasn't nearly as pretty out there IMO though.

Take a look at Townsend and possibly Three Forks--though be advised, in the TF area the water tends to taste lousy and may require some extra filtering or additives so as not to mess up your laundry. Mega minerals there. Those are both very much ag towns.

Anaconda is DIRT CHEAP and has about the most picturesque location you could want, just be advised that it has some urban social problems, old mining cleanup type issues, and it has a bit of an air of "decay" around it because the economy is so bad. Don't buy there sight unseen....BUT it has a full service hospital, lots of community spirit and all that jazz. It could be a great place for someone of "independent but fixed means," aka retirees. And I bet Charles could find ways to pursue his line of retirement work there.

ETA: Another thing I didn't like about Livingston is that the area felt too closed in. It's Alpine forest area, really IN the mountains. And the pass going toward Bozeman can be true torture in the winter. Winds get very high, both on the pass and down around town. Probably more snow there too though I'm not sure....It tends a little more toward the "Yellowstone-ish" climate, IIRC, so you might find it a little on the severe side.

My issue with that town is the name!

I'm one who as a kid, stapled the section of the encyclopedia that deal with those reptiles so I didn't even have to look by accident!

Even today, people who really know me refer to them as leg less lizards! And I will ask people to change the subject if brought up in conversation.

I know it's a phobia but it runs REALLY deep and at 60, no intention on trying to beat the phobia.

I've seen some interesting places there but I just can NOT get past the name.

I hear you, not at ALL fond of the legless ones. I could get over the word, though, if necessary. I think. maybe.

this was surprising because you were so pro your current place. but I think it's great!! the boldness!
