So i thought i had a discussion on here last year about my pth problems but dont see it here. But i really need some advice.
My pth is over 200. The specialist isn't overly concerned but i am. I already have osteoporosis. I have been trying to eat more and take more vitamins but no change in my numbers and now ive gained 5lbs. I knew gaining weight might happen but thought it would be worth it to get my numbers in line. But to gain and have my numbers still be bad is toooo much.
Anyone else here have pth issues and has got them under control. Surgeon wants to increase my bowel length but no way an i ding that

Your profile doesn't say where you live but if you are close to California, Keshishian is doing D shots. Sounds like you are a candidate. If you are not, find a compounding pharmacy and ask them what you have to do to get inject-able D. In the meanwhile, up your D...a lot! How much are you taking now?

Next I would add calcium apatite to the CA you are already taking. The wonder of this stuff is that it is made from ground up bones so it has all the other stuff you need as well. Keep on taking your citrate, just add the apatite.

This won't get fixed overnight but it is fixable!

Thanks for b the replies guys. Like i said i was taking 150k a day of d and 3000 of calcium the specialist said that's a waste. My levels didn't change from when i was taking 100k d and 2000 calcium.
My last labs showed d at 48(range 30-100) and calcium 8.4(range 8.6-10.4).
Tried to get vit d shots but was told d level was perfect they would not recommend d shots).
I took that apitate calcium no difference.
Took apitate and the other one at the same time. . No difference
Do they check for nodes by feeling your neck? They check my neck at my yearly physical. I asked if my glands could be a problem and they said no.

What is PTH?

PTH controls calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood. PTH is made by the parathyroid glands , which are four pea-sized glands that lie behind the thyroid gland . If the blood calcium level is too low, the parathyroid glands release more PTH.

An endocrinologist can check for nodes in the neck. There are other tests you can have as well. When my PTH wouldn't go down (early on) we did many tests.

If your bloods show your Vit. D is good and your calcium as well, I'd see an endocrinologist. @cheryl baker

What is PTH?

My answer to that is one I can understand.

PTH is parathyroid hormone. Part of its job is to make sure there is enough calcium in your blood (serum calcium) to keep all your systems working. If there is NOT enough calcium there, the parathyroid goes looking for calcium and finds it in your teeth and bones...and even in cosmetic facial fillers that are calcium-based.

Things to remember:
1--having "normal" calcium numbers on your blood tests means nothing if you don't also have normal PTH numbers. Your doctors MUST test for both.
2--the "sign" that the PTH has starting stealing calcium from your teeth and bones is that your PTH score goes out of normal range...too high.
3--the Vitamin D we are talking about is NOT the prescription Vitamin D in an oil base. We don't absorb oil.

ETA--don't let a doctor who is fixated on your PTH, but unaware of what bariatric surgery can do to those results, start scheduling you for surgery.

Your D is too low at 48 and as Munchkin said you need Vitamin D injections. I have to get Vitamin D injections which I order from Central Drugs in La Habra, CA http://www.centraldrugsrx.com/ because I don't absorb D well. The plan for me was to do the 600,000 IU injection monthly until I got the number up and steady, but for stupid reasons I haven't had an injection since November. I just had labs and my PTH is still too high at 52. My D hasn't come back yet but I suspect it will be in the low 50's as well, so I will be on the horn to Central Drugs getting one of my 5 remaining refills shipped ASAP ($30 for 1 ML but I think for $100 I can 10 ML...I am going to see if I can get them to give my 10 1 ML bottles instead of one big one because once it is cracked the shelf life is 30 days)

No offense but the specialist sounds clueless about DS needs. Getting your D up will help you absorb more calcium and your PTH should go down as well.

Apparently not completely true. My calcium in March was 9.0, my D was 138, and my PTH went up to 48 from 15. So I am adding more calcium as my D is great.
