My son, Cody Jensen, is the leading Quarter Horse jockey in the US. Prayers please...yesterday morning at Riodoso Downs, my son was on a horse that they were loading into the gates, the horse rared up and Cody went off, he landed on his side and the horse lost its footing and came down on top of him and then rolled over him. Cody has a broken vertebrae and 6 broken ribs. They are transporting him to Albequerque to the trauma center at UNM.

Wow - a quick Google search shows he's been seriously hurt a number of times - that would make me nuts knowing my son was doing something that dangerous for a living.

My son (almost 30) broke his leg last month riding a quad (http://bariatricfacts.org/threads/off-on-another-quick-trip.2903/page-3) and I just about had a heart attack.
Yes, he has. Many times. He has been doing this since he was 17. He shattered his pelvis in 2011, broke his collarbone in 5 places in 2013, broke it again and broke his wrist last year. He broke his femur in I think 2003 or 4. When he broke his collarbone the first time in 2013, he was in OKC in the tornados, it happened on a Saturday, the surgeon put a plate and 12 screws in it on Monday and he was riding on Thursday. Same thing with the second break, it happened in CA on Sat., he flew to OKC on Sunday, the same surgeon did his surgery on Monday, he flew back on Thursday and won the Million Dollar derby at Los Alamitos on Saturdayand he was off 2 weeks with his wrist. He is the toughest person I know. He has won the All American futurity in 2005 and 2006 which is the equivalent to the Kentucky Derby in Quarter Horse racing.

My best positive vibes to your son for quick and full healing and my thoughts go out to you as Mom. Hang in there. Even though you have practice at this it doesn't make any less stressful or worrisome.

My most heartfelt best wishes and prayers go out to you all. I must tell you though, as a layperson, you guys must all be pretty proud knowing that your son is the best of the best in any vocation. Probably not a lot of solace to say that at this time, but, my point is how many people can say they are the best at something they love to do?

Very true. SOOOO proud of him! He was AQHA jockey of the year 2013 AND 2014 and won the Sam Thompson award last year which is given by other riders to the Jockey they admire most. That was even more precious. It's pretty cool when you can Google your kid and there are page after page of links!
