I go to church Sunday and I see a member who's last name is also Harris and she is on a walker like me. So I say oh Ms.Harris both Ms. Harris are on a walker. What happened to you. She said the same thing that happened to you and now your on a walker. So im like damn you flipped 6 times too? Lol NO!!!! She had a band to RNY revision after 2 years of the band and no weight loss. Now she is severely malnourished. To be fair she had cancer last year but has been in remission. So a certain doctor who's name rhymes with Bang says the malnourishment is from the cancer last year. So he gives her iron infusions at home with a home health nurse and he signed her up for physical therapy. So me having been where she's going said "you'll be dead by 2 months from now". She gasped and said don't say that. Then I told her let me prepare you for what you have to look forward to. She was horrified. I doubt if it takes her 2 months to die at the point she's already at. She's passing out, her bp is 53/30, her mind is going.

So I told her regardless of if your malnourished because of the cancer last year or the bypass in January you are very malnourished. The way to fix malnourishment is TPN. SO I told her when she goes to her appointment today don't take no for an answer demand TPN! She has a port already and a home health nurse. I feel terrible for her she has no one in AZ to look out for her but I made her give me her number and I'm going to keep checking on her she is only like 30. I'm going to try to get her to come on the site. But when your being bossy and pushy you can't do too much too quick or she may duck her head and run.

I'm still in the process of learning and I do not know what some of these acronyms mean. What is TPN and how can it help to improve her situation?

@Svetlanaleigh TPN Stands for total parental nutrition. It has high calories, high protein and whatever other vitamin and minerals your body is low in. It's going directly into the blood stream so you get every calorie and protein. First time I was on it my bag had 120 grams proteins and 1850 calories. They draw you blood every week to see what they need to put vitamin and mineral wise In the bag tbe next week. Also it keeps you hydrated. It is usually given through a picc line or a port. You don't have to worry about absorption because it's not going through the stomach.

LOL As soon as I saw reference to a PICC, I knew someone might want to know what it looks like. CHarris, unfortunately, knows from experience.

Oops I just routinely believe everyone knows what the heck I'm talking about. Forgetting most people have not all the hospital experience I have had.
Your description is medical textbook perfect. My experience with PICC lines is academic. I hope it stays that way and you never have to see a PICC for the rest of your life.

The picc line itself can be a huge potential for complications though. Central line infections are very very common and nothing to be taken lightly. A big case of sepsis on an already compromised body can kill you pretty darn fast. It's a last resort and all attempts to avoid it should be taken. Like Spiky said, usually the result of a lesser skilled surgeon.

Which hospital does physician "Bang" operate out of??

I got sepsis 3 times with my picc line. Now I have a port.

@Charris Is she at least on creon? Good for you looking out for this young lady. Hopefully she gets on TPN yesterday.

Our mwdical community and some if these idiots who shouldn't be licensed to operate on a potato really fucking piss me off. I waa under this grandiose illusing that surgeons actually utilized fucking science.

BTW I am seriously contemplating going back on a small dose of creon if I don't start getting beeter in the next month. I am not completely healed and recovered from my two hernia repairs but I am a good 75% there. If after I am fully healed I don't start seeing my labs improve, a little weight kept on and I don't start feeling better I will start on creon. I don't want to have to live the rest of my life on creon but I can't continue this current existence.

Sorry. I don't want this post be about me. I hope you are getting better. You deserve it.
