I've slowly been working my way through the 21 recipes on this page:

http://paleogrubs.com/bread-recipes

None of them turn out like bread, I'm not gonna lie. The cinnamon roll one turned out the best of all of them. Just did the breadsticks with almond flour tonight, the dogs wouldn't even eat a second one, even dripping in butter and garlic.

And, in case anyone wonders, they all made me fart. So there. I might as well have eaten real bread, and it would have been cheaper, too.

I will say this: they have lots of eggs and nuts in them, so the protein content is higher than bread. But they are not in any stretch of my imagination, equal to bread.

If anyone has a better recipe for flourless bread, I'm all ears. So far, the best "bread" is Oopsie rolls, IMO.

I made this one today:

http://cookingcaveman.tumblr.com/post/25506028957/the-paleo-bread-search-is-officially-over

First it said to bake between 30 and 60 minutes, umm could we narrow that down a bit? I checked with a tooth pick (out clean) and thought it was done at about 35 minutes. It was still mushy in the middle. Smelled pretty good, a little "eggy", pretty good texture, tastes like crap. Still searching for something better than the oopsie too.

Oopsie rolls didn't look or taste like bread to me.

I need Whole Foods and Trader Joes for flour-free breads. And a good dose of self-moderation wouldn't hurt.

Just an FYI, I know they're not paleo, and I'm not sure if you're looking for grain free or just low carb, but Trader Joe's has a sprouted rye bread with 7carbs, 3 fiber and 5 protein. It toasts up really nicely. I also found Joseph's flax, oat bran & whole wheat pita bread at Publix- 8 carbs, 4 fiber, 6 protein. I've eaten those as a pita, made into pita chips, and also made into a quesadilla.

Thanks...I'm trying to avoid overprocessed white flour. So I generally get sprouted wheat bread. I'm enjoying somebody's gluten free English muffins, too. Deal is, I don't eat enough of the bread to use a whole loaf, and it's even less wonderful frozen and thawed. But my belly appreciates it.

I live in BFE, no Trader Joes. We do have a natural grocery store, for now. I hope it will make it here. This is farm country. They grow potatoes and grain here, for the love of God! Okay, rant over.

I would love to be able to make some fabulous bread substitute. So far, IMHO, they all suck. I am not looking for Paleo, just low carb. I have only had one piece of Healthnut bread. It was so freaking delicious right up until I was brushing my teeth to head to the emergency room and started vomiting. To be fair, it was too early to be having a nutty bread and I was having a lot of trouble with stomach spasms from the GERD. I ended up feeling better after vomiting so I never went to the ER. I will try this bread again in a few weeks. I think it will be a great complex carb just not so early pre-op.

I am not looking to add a bunch of carby foods and I have not been over 45 grams of carbs since my surgery, I just like a lot of variety. A half a sandwich now and then, would be a real treat.

NA, when I have the urge for bread, I just make sure I get something that also makes it worth it. My downfall was never sweets, but bread, esp fresh baked, could do me in faster than anything. Look at the serving size of your favorite (pre-op) bread...most are set to a serving size of two slices not one. I can't eat two pieces even now. But like you, I do like an occasional sandwich...I either make me a sandwich using one piece or share a sandwich with dh.

Yeah, I made the mistake of trying to eat a grilled bacon and cheese sandwich on the sprouted rye bread. The slices are small and the whole things had a ton of protein with very few carbs, but that was not wise. It took me over an hour to eat (and it was ice cold and congealed by the end) and I never managed to finish it and felt ill for a long time after. 1 slice is more than enough for me!

Yep, I live further than BFE. I don't even have a health store nearby. I did discover this Daiya cheese that is made from plant protein. It's 50 miles away to get my fix. It tastes as I would imagine three month old sweat socks in a teenage boys gym bag would but it melts and after the first bite that pungent taste loses some of it's gross factor. I've had a grilled cheese sammich, I've had a cheeseburger. I'm going to make whole wheat mac and cheese after I get back to the store. It's 8 dollars for 11 slices...arrrrgggghhhhh.

I'm with you guys on a whole loaf going to waste. Locally, we have a Spatz family bread company, which is homemade bread, white & wheat. When relatives come home, they always leave with 6 loaves. Problem is, they don't freeze well and go stale fast, having no preservatives. When I really crave good bread, I make creamed chicken on toast with Spatz's bread and slather it with butter. One slice is too much for me, but the men here decimate one loaf for a meal, so it's all good.

My problem was always bread when I was heavy. I could bake bread and eat one loaf myself. I'm a really good cook, and make amazing cinnamon rolls, breads, cakes, things with flour I don't eat now. I love to still make them, but I don't do it often. Maybe twice a year. I eat a little, but stop before I get sick, which I do, violently. And I can't throw up, never have been able to, so I stay nauseated and beyond miserable until it passes through me. It's a great deterent to eating bread.

I'm not stopping on my quest for nut bread. I'm now experimenting with all different nut flours. **If** I get something worth swallowing, I will be sure to share it. I don't hold out much hope, since the internet is full of these Paleo bread crap recipes and Oopsie Rolls that even my dogs won't eat.

Why fake cheese? Do you have a problem with real cheese?

I'm milk intolerant. No whey proteins, no cheese, no milk, no cream, no cottage cheese, no yogurt...the only thing I can have without consequences is real butter. I haven't found anything else. I've been planning on finding a place that has natural milk to try it but haven't found it yet. :(

What a bummer!
