Okay, one of the neighborhood kids is at Sochi. He worked hard to get there. He's an awesome kid, kind-hearted, humble, fun, who just graduated from high school last May. He got a bronze on the U.S. ice team and that's amazing. BUT, he wears a pony tail. So that's all the commentators are talking about - not his accomplishments. Plus there are just lots of mean comments out there about his looks. Geez, Why are people so focused on appearances? Sigh.

Here's a picture of him with my friend's daughter at her skate recital, doing what he normally does, which is being a normal kid who happens to love to skate.

End of rant.

I think he's adorable and looks good with the long hair. Not all guys can do that IMO but he does.

I don't get why his hair length matters at all. He's definite got athletic talent to even get to the Olympics. Congrats on his hard work to get there and complete well.

All, thanks for being the amazing folks you are and understanding my frustration.

I like his ponytail - it's a reflection of his individuality, but even if I didn't like it, who cares what he looks like? He's a good kid and hard-working athlete and that's what counts. I just get frustrated that the media is so focused on appearances and there's so much teasing/taunting about his looks. No different to me than them focusing on celebrities' physiques in a way, but he doesn't have thick skin yet. He's a sweetheart and some of the comments out there are pretty hurtful.

@brooklyngirl , his name is Jason Brown. He's in men's figure skating.
