If you are over 50, want to be in a study and have your gut flora evaluated, and see if licking your dog affects it (OK, that's not exactly what it said), then read this .

One of my last trips to the vet with Bear when the vet thought he'd been poisoned, he gave Bear a kiss right on the lips. Even I didn't do that. I thought he just liked Bear, but must have actually been working on getting some variety in his gut flora. Those of you that still have dogs should start selling dog kisses - gotta be cheaper than the probiotics we buy.

Uhm, wow, that is truly disgusting! There are far too many reports on animals infecting humans with their mouth to mouth contact. One lady here in Georgia wound up in intensive care because she was smooching with her dog! Please don't do it!

I've wondered about cats too, even though I don't have one.

If I were ready to get another dog, I'd consider doing that study.
