I just saw this on sale at Costco this week. Has anyone tried it and does it have enough vitamins for immediate post-op before I'm able to take pills? Has good reviews and someone commented that they took it after getting banded. Realize that taste is ymmv...

They also make a liquid calcium citrate 1000mg (w/vitamin D) that I'm definitely going to purchase for pre and post-op.

My experience with liquid vitamins is that they taste like I would imagine old nasty ass tastes like. In other words, definitely no bueño for me. YMMV

This is the one I am currently taking and I have enough for about 45 days post op. I decided to take this before and after so that I could get used to it. Pretty strong flavor! It says to mix it with fruit juice or water. I have been just swallowing it. I worry that post-op, it will be a lot to try to get down. I also bought my calcium citrate in powder form also my magnesium citrate and oxide. I thought I could mix them into a protein supplement or eggs or whatever I am able to eat. I have been just mixing a little calcium citrate into some lemon water and downing it. I know that space will be at a premium later. We shall see.

I didn't see what brand you were using till I saw the pic imbedded in the quote. I'll have to check that one out - yours has a lot more vitamin A and the calcium was citrate -- the revival was carbonate (was willing to overlook that since I'd be taking calcium citrate also).

I hope that I can swallow pills PDQ after surgery. These liquid vitamins leave your mouth and throat yucky pretty much all day. I have to say though that even being on SlimFast only for breakfast and lunch, they are okay on my stomach. I was a little worried about that.

I was able to swallow pills the day I got home...unlike a RNY'er who can't handle any pill bigger than an eraser becuase of their brand newly made pouch, we do not have the top of our stomach messed with, just the side.

I was and still am taking the Kirkland multi.

That is good to know, but that didn't stop the nutritionist from telling me nothing bigger than an asprin. Genius. I'll resume my regular meds in pill form when I get home, to hell with their RNY-rules-for-DS.

I was taking all mine at about 2 weeks out. I did have huge calcium pills and dissolved those. Now I slam back a handful at a time. Me,that used to choke on a chewable. lol

I used it when I had a band, and when I was newly post op from VSG. It's not too bad. Now I take the Kirkland premium tablets. One really cool thing about Costco is that they let you take anything back. If you don't like the taste, they will take it back. It's the same with any food the sell. The customer service person told me that they do that to encourage people to try all of their stuff. I've taken several food items back that I didn't like with no problem.

That is SO me...this is my biggest fear of the DS is that I won't be able to swallow all the vites!

I've only been able to swallow the big pills easily for the past few weeks, but I did have trouble with swallowing horse pills even before surgery. I did chewables for quite a while as I wasn't able to drink a large enough gulp to get them down in the beginning. I would've tried this had I know about it!

It took me a lot of trial and error, but for some reason I found the shaker bottles for the protein powders (even if it's not a shake) make it easier for me to swallow the pills that used to make me gag. Something about the flow of liquid not being too fast or too slow works for me :)

At two weeks out, I started the Vitalady DS regime. I had to take each pill one or two at a time for about a week. It took forever and the water filled me up pretty fast. By 3 weeks, I was able to put them all in my mouth, tilt my head back with a mouthful of water and just let them swim down. I didn't take the iron for about 4 weeks.
Since then, it's been a piece of cake. Don't think much about it. Hope it's easy for you as well, but you have to work into it!

Why liquid vites? The surgery doesn't change your ability to swallow. Only the amount your stomach will hold changes. You probably won't be able to just toss back a handful of pills but you should be able to take one or 2 at a time. I started mine about 6 days post, one at a time. Took a while to get them all down but I did. I wasn't taking iron. Did everything but that. Later it turned out I don't even need to supplement iron.
