I keep saying, “ There are two times people move into “Assisted Living“-type situations: too early and too late. We opted for too early.

I can’t find it, but there was a TED talk by an Emergency Dept doctor who told of his conversation with the daughter of a patient who was being admitted in pretty dire shape.
Dr: Does your father have an Advance Directive or any documents that tell us what he wants if he is unable to tell us what he wants?
Daughter: No…not yet…we always figured we still had time to do deal with that.
Dr: How old is your father?
Daughter: 94.

because you are SMART. you planned it, instead of waiting for a crisis.

and maybe it wasn't too early, who knows for sure? the longer you waited the harder the change would have been on your husband.
